On one of my wheels, 4 of the nut covers have come off. In addition, I can't keep most of the others tightened for more than a couple of hours of driving. If I try to tighten them firmly, they slip and I have to tighten again (but not as much).
I've found where I can buy some replacements, but wonder why they keep coming loose? Also, what do the nut covers actually thread onto? Looks like it has to be the nut.
Anyone else having the problem?
Thanks,
Ralph

they are plastic and thread onto the lug nuts. My guess is that at some time, someone overtightened them and stripped the plastic threads. they don't need to be that tight. there are 4 notches on the hub that will keep the plastic nut from turning. My 04 is doing fine, 100K miles, and tires are rotated twice/year and studless tires in the wintertime, so plenty of cap changes.

Ours have never given us any trouble...finger tight only.
The "real" lug nuts are underneath. They get torqued to 140 ft. lbs.

I had that problem once.
My theory was that the tire techie spun em with the impact wrench.
But how can you prove that?

Have you considered replacing the open nuts with chrome acorn nuts? Just asking.

Put a dab of silicone on them and they should stay.

Probably some tire monkey spun them on with an impact wrench and ruined them.

same thing to me... someone rotating my tires spun every single one of them with the impact...
just as a another member mentioned.. dab of 100% clear silicon...the perfect fix

Thanks for the feedback.
Lost another one today (total 5), coming back from camping. So I took the plastic "hubcap" off until I can get new nut covers. I'm sure since it says "GMC" it would cost me a bunch.
I did just have a new set of tires put on. Strange, though, that all the missing covers are on one tire.
I'll try the silicone trick for sure.
Thanks,
Ralph

When you say silicon, do you mean the silicon caulk? I have lost one of the hubcaps because the nuts came loose. Right now, the hubcaps are in a box in my garage. Chevrolet charges around $80 for new ones, and I don't intend to pay that.
