If they are loose because the opening has expanded I just put a stick match along side the screw and screw it back in.

In wood, tooth picks and wood glue. Squirt a little glue in the stripped holes, then stuff a couple of tooth picks in the hole and break them off even with the surface. Re-install the screw and avoid over tightening. When the glue has set, snug up the screw a little.

Hi,

A better fix is leather (cut in a isosceles triangle) and white glue. Put the glue in the hole, stuff in the leather and barely tighten down the screw. Wait 24 hours and re-tighten the screw.

Another even better fix is to pack the hole with Kleenex, soak with water thin CA glue for wood (careful it is exothermic) and insert the screw.

Another fix is to stuff small pieces of steel wool in the hole. Roll the steel wool in small rolls between your fingers.

For larger screws/larger holes....

Fill hole with some wood glue, hammer in a golf tee (wooden of course). When glue dries, break golf tee off level with surface. Re-drill hole, and install screw.
