If you use a diamond plate box be sure to cut adequate ventilation holes in it. A sealed box is a bomb. Batteries produce hydrogen gas when charging.

Bartlettei - The design I am using with the 48-inch side mount diamondplate tool box has a three-inch sink drain (Lowes) mounted to the foward lip you see below adjacent to each battery installed. It also has a drain hole in the bottom of the box in a couple of places close to edge.

My box will sit on top the tongue frame sitting on round hard rubber bushings. It also will have Blue Sea 9001E four position battery switches installed in the front extended lip area. Battery cables will come into the box from the bottom area through rubber grommets. The lip area on the inside manages the battery cables, blue Sea fuse blocks, Blue sea 5/16-inch terminals blocks, and ANCOR battery cables using ring terminals, etc.

Nice design and LOCKABLE to keep the batteries from growing legs...

I also went with two 6v batteries. They fit perfectly and have proven much longer lived than the grp 24/27 batteries I had in the past.
