That's a great idea.
Thats great for recovery ,after you have been violated. But what about prevention ?

okay so what's to stop them from using the manuel hand crank? I agree with kabb449 if a thief wants it he/she will find a way to get it. I have a battery cutoff and my landing gear controls are in a locked compartment. but again easily pried open with a crowbar or a just use a standard trailer compartment key. either way does me no good when the manueal hand crank access is in plain sight on and easily accessible. I dont worry about it. life is to short.

A home security salesman put it best, if they want it, they'll get it. The point of security is to make your place look less attractive to break into than your neighbor's. Same thing goes for the RV, I guess. A pin lock is a visual cue that might make a thief choose another unit that is less work to steal. However, as mentioned, if they want our unit, they'll get it. Cutting power to the landing gear is another good idea to slow them down.

A receiver hitch pin lock installed into holes drilled in the landing gear legs would keep the landing gear from being able to be operated, either by the hand crank or by electric motor. Together with a quality welded steel (not cheap cast aluminum or pot metal) king pin lock, that should deter most thieves. You could go a step further and put tire boots on the trailer tires. I keep a tire boot on my truck every night.

Along with the excellent suggestions as to cutting off battery power and pulling fuses, I use this kingpin lock:

Yep, it ain't cheap compared to the typical $20-30 jobber out there. Then again, my 5'er wasn't cheap either.
There are ways to get around kingpin locks, even "unpickable" ones. I too believe in the concept of "make 'em look for an easier target"

We have a 12 volt switch and a landing gear switch inside the basement. I thought this was a standard thing but after reading the above posts I was just guessing.

Might as well just put the RV up on cinderblocks, and take the wheels off too. Some of you must live in some pretty high crime area's. For me, If they want to steal the trailer, go right ahead. That's what insurance is for.

My unit also came with a battery shut off inside the locked basement. But my rig like I am sure many others, have spring loaded quick release front landing gear. It would take me no time to back my truck under the 5 er with my air bags empty. Hook on to it, inflate my bags to raise the landing gear enough to pull the spring landing gear part up and drive off.

I suspect stollen 5th wheels are mostly going from dealers where there are lots of rigs and lots of trucks going in and out and it's easy to lose track of who's who.
If I see a different truck pull up to the neighbors rig and start hooking up at a campground, I'm probably going to wander over and say howdy.
A simple pin lock will discourge most theives while in storage but i would be much more worried with a standard travel trailer. Not many casual thieves will have a 5th wheel hitch handy. Anybody with a 1/2ton has a reicever hitch that will get them 10 miles down the road where they can figure out what to do with thier loot in a more leisurely setting.
