Frandy Park is in downtown Kernville, as is a new one, Campkernville.com. a couple of websites you can check, kvsun.com, discoverkern.com,
lakeisabella.net, krvr.org. We also have a nice KOA, but it is 15 miles from Kernville.
Yes, it will be hot here in July and the river will be low. but, aw heck, come on up....The lake is not too low at this time....but the wind has been brutal for the last month....windsurfers love it!
The Kern canyon, hwy 178, while beautiful, is a narrow winding road, with stretches of overhanging rock. It is much less stressful to come in from the east. Hwy 14 then west on 178, remember to watch for cattle, as it is open range.
Enjoy

lets go!!

Sorry about that, the RV.net portal is having some 'issues'. One of them seems to be smart quotes and some symbols seem to cause it to have fits. As Bob mentioned you might try using either Woodalls for TrailerLife portals as those don't seem to be having the same problem (go figure).

I'll try that angle now. Really sucks after typing a lengthy response and it won't "take" and I rarely use any goofy symbols or pics, etc.

Really bad when you're responding to a Mod's question!

I hear ya, trust me Dave and I understand. This is beyond our control though. Hang in there though.

....snip....You can go in from either the 5 or 14, the 14 route is a little longer but a lot easier than going up the canyon from the 5. I go in from the 14 all the time with no problems.
If you go to Keysville, let me know and I will get cords for a great spot. The riding up there is a little technical, but great.

Ah sorry, but the 5 doesn't go any where near Kern Canyon. You can pick up Hwy 178 in Bakersfield (24th st) right off of the 99, or you can turning north off of Hwy 58 on to Morning Dr.

I agree with others... the best route is up Hwy 14 and then west on 178. Kern Canyon with a 30 footer behind you can be a little tricky.

We always stay at James Camp. Some of the campgrounds up the river from Kernville can be a little tight and 30' may be a little too much for the majority of the sites.
