Just wanted to remind folks to be careful if they are hiking at Stone Mountain State Park in NC. A hiker fell to his death Saturday night. Adhere to warning signs and don't try to get a closer look to the edge. Admire it all from the trail.

Even though it is a "mountain", mosto of it is dome shaped. It is easy to slide off. And if its wet, even worse. More here. Also to note, another person died at the falls there after climbing in an area that he shouldn't ahve been. More on that here.

That is sad. I was just at a church retreat at Black Mountain at the YMCA there and did some kind of dangerous hiking. It is very alluring and you just don't think YOU will screw up, but you can't control the ground under you.
RIP.

Been delayed on posting this but another person fell to their death this past weekend. This time a boyscout. Second one since June. Another one fell near the waterfalls not too long ago either. According to the local newspaper, several of the boyscouts went off the trail. The trail is marked before you even get near the summit with warning signs. Obey them! Here's a picture of the one of the signs I took last year or the year before.

This proves that even beautiful places can be dangerous when you don't pay attention or obey the rules. May God be with his family at a time like this.

A scout in my son troop was there with his family when it happened. It was very interesting to hear his tail of what happened because he saw the boys at the top right before it happened. His father used it as a chance to tell the boys the importance of staying with the leaders and obeying them. I hope the boys took notes. His father was also interviewed by the TV crew.
