I had the thunderbolt foxfi worked with that phone
I now have the nexus and foxfi works on that phone
you do have to set it up
then scan for it with the laptop
for blue tooth you have to pair the phone and the laptop
I've had poor luck with blue tooth
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

I use Foxfi with my HTC Droid Incredible and Asus Transformer Prime with bluetooth (BT only on HTC Dinc) My internet browsing actually works better in this configuration than my combo of Verizon Samsung Hotspot and transformer prime. However the apps do not work with the bluetooth configuration of fox fi so I have to do everyhing through the browser.
We switch back and forth depending on how our usage is stacking up through the month.

I was reading on the app just yesterday.
I believe it says HTC phones only work with bluetooth.
I do not have HTC so can't help on how it should work.
From the website:
WiFi mode does NOT work on Motorola Droid 1, Motorola Triumph, Samsung Admire, LG Revolution or any HTC phones, use Bluetooth mode instead.

Again - An early Droid either called 855 or Droid 1, will ONLY work with FireFi using the Bluetooth option.

FoxFi was dead simple to get running on my Droid Razr. A great ap. Took five minutes to complete everything.

Foxfi on my DroidX works very well with my tablet and notebook computer. I do not use Bluetooth.
