We have an unusual problem, that is now affecting my Good Sam extended warranty! We had work done on our coach several years ago for oil blowing out the back (I've also posted several times about that problem too!) and when the Freightliner repair place in Utah did the diagnostics and repair they somehow reset our odometer to zero. We had them write us a letter stating that they had done that and we always bring that with us to show that we have more miles than the odometer says we do. We bought a Good Sam Extended warranty and now they are saying they will not pay any claims until we get a signed affidavit stating the true miles. We've had it at another place that said that you can't just "erase" the miles and that the real mileage would in the "brains" of the computer, so they took a look and nothing, it just showed the miles that we had since the Utah Freightliner place zeroed it out.

So, what do we do? The Freightliner place says the letter is good enough, but Good Sam says no........I now have a useless warranty until we can figure this out. Suggestions anyone??

Take the Freightliner letter to a Notary. Sign in their presence and have it notarized. I don't know if this will satisfy GS, but it won't cost much to try.

Dear Disaster Chick,

Generally when a repair facility replaces an odometer, they will provide an affidavit stating the mileage at the time of the replacement. Sounds like this is a little different situation, where Freighliner didn't replace the odometer, they just inadvertantly re-set it.

If you can send me (scan and e-mail or fax) the letter from Freightliner, I'll attach it to your policy in our system and add some notes about your situation. If the letter has the mileage at the time of the re-set, we will accept this as documentation of your true mileage.

Shouldn't Utah Freightliner have the work order with the miles in when it came to their shop. That WO along with the certified letter plus the miles currently on the rig should do it.
I also had a similar problem. Somehow there is two odometer readings. One for the transmission and and one for the engine I think.

Yeah, that is good customer service. (I wish all companies would step up to the plate like that.)

Scott that would be great!! I was kind of shock that they took such a hard stance on this, as we always bring the letter with us. We have every service record from the day we bought the coach, so it's easy to see when the "miracle" happened!! Can you please send me a message with your email and I will scan and send it to you!! Thank you so much!! We are trying to be honest about this whole thing and we didn't even realize it had happened until a few weeks later. The Freightliner place didn't even know they had done it!! Hubby is happy now!!!
