We hike and do photography in Sedona - don't sit around either. But don't like fighting to get our unit in like a sardine can.
Granted, close to the big shopping area there and almost walkable distance to uptown so if walking and shopping is why you are there then that would also be a plus.

Thanks to all who have provided thier choices and non-choices. Ifloom for the Dead Horse, Lauren for not only her recommendation but most importantly the why of it and to Mpond and Billofpa for thier thoughts. My concern after reading the negatives elsewhere was for our dogs. We have two cockers almost 12yrs old, one blind and the other is just a real baby and howls like crazy when we leave her....this goes on for about 3 or 4 minutes and then she stops and goes to sleep. So I have real concerns about folks who don't have a real pet friendly approach to those who RV with pets.
Again, thanks so much for the comments, I knew I would get some great insight from the "family" here. It is really gratifying to know that asking a question here will get thoughtful and helpful comments.
Everyone, please keep the recommendations coming...we aren't leaving until 8-22.
Well, LTCLarry, a point of clarification. I am a HIM. Yeh, I know, kinda like the boy named Sue. That was, as I have been told, the old time MALE spelling of the name. Named after a friend of my father's who was born around 1900. Who knows - but have lived with it for 72 years. :-)

Mea culpa....my apologies......
Thank you so much for your candid comment. My biggest concern is for my dogs.
Living in the area- I would 2nd the recommendations for either Dead Horse State Park or Distant Drums. You will need to run your AC this time of year. Both are nice parks it just depends on if you prefer the private park by the highway ambiance or state park ambiance. I prefer Dead Horse. State park is not FHU but has a very nice and easily accessible dump station. There are pathways around the ponds where you can walk the dogs. It does cool down after the sun goes down.
Turquoise Triangle in Cottonwood http://turquoisetrianglerv.com/ economical, in town, for walking to restaurants, etc. I disliked Sedona's upscale attitude and prices, liked Cottonwood a lot better. YMMV
We stayed at Distant Drums this spring when we were in the area. We had FHU and a pull thru site. Very nice park. Easy in and out.

Again, thanks to each and every one of you who has responded. WylieWanderings and inflt48 I was sneaking up on those 3, Dead Horse, Distant Drums and Turquoise. I like the idea of the State Park and the lack of sewer doesn't overly concern me.
Shot-N-Az, I knew you had to be out there! Thanks for your service to our Country and Semper Fi.....just fyi, I was once an EM for 3 years (helo crew chief) then OCS, then 82nd Abn and on, RVN 69-70. One thing I learned...if you want an efficient unit keep the troops happy and well fed! If my troops (DW and the D-pups) aren't happy ...well you know the rest.
