Thanks. Also, how can I determine the current condition and remaining life span of the current roof?

I would start with contacting the manufacturer and see what they say about roof longevity. As to cost get some estimages from reputable RV dealers. And these forums will always give you a range of responses to any question. Just ask and see what comments come back to you.

Not sure about the roof or the value but I see you have the 8.1 allison combo, I towed a 35 foot fifth wheel with pretty much that same truck, you will be stopping for gas before the bathroom. That 26 gallon tank doesnt go too far with that sort of weight,Not sure if your looking at long trips or long stays. I will say that combo was great for towing but could never pass a gas station, good luck in your choice.

If you're able to, you can probably do the roof yourself for about $8-900 with the material. I bought a 19 year old unit that needed work and have been happy with it so far.

I would steer clear myself.

I strive to stay completely out of any financial contracts with friends, neighbors, and family. There is a good chance you will find the camper has aged a little more than you had hoped, and then either you will have ill feelings to him, or he will always think you do and you could loose a friend.

I would upgrade to a real upgrade and keep my neighbor as a friend.

That's a good point, that's why I don't ever sell anything to some one that I'm good friends with. I want to keep them as good friends. Also I don't buy anything from a friend for the same reason.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mile High. If there is trouble later on it could affect a friendship that exists now. Were it me, I'd pass on it just to keep good neighbors as good neighbors.

before I made this purchase, I would invest just a small bit of money and take it to an RV service for inspection. Nothing wrong with that. They will tell you just how good this '12 yr old' unit really is and while the owner took great care of it, looks are not everything. the guts are important.

the older you go, the more to go wrong 'sooner'. so I would err on precaution and get an inspection. that way you know for sure. worth the price to save a bigger problem down the road.

best of luck in your search for a 5er.
I just bought one. I love it

I would agree that the fiver could be a good value, and you may get several good years out of it. However, I have seen these kinds of deals really affect relationships, whether it be family or close friend, and would steer clear all together only for that reason no matter how good the deal. Think about the value of your long-term relationship with your neighbor, and the risk of putting it in jeopardy.
