And in their effort to stick it to our friends just across the border, they are sticking it to the locals. Gas and Diesel is cheaper in Spokane in Eastern Washington than it is in Western Washington. And guess which side of the State the refineries are located in?

Just paid $1.51 liter for diesel in Fort Nelson BC. Most I have ever paid for fuel...

Can you say extremely high taxes?????

Nope,
Same Canadian province - same taxes - I pay $1.25/liter - thats $1/gallon cheaper. Fort Nelson is northern and remote so fuel companies charge more. Supply and demand. As I said fuel is more expensive throughout the world than the US but for many reasons beyond taxes/governments. Another example, fuel in Washington state jumps in price as you approach the Canadian border because fuel companies know Canadians cross to buy fuel so they can charge more near the border.

I understand the remote areas being more. I was meaning Canadian fuel has higher tax than US fuel.

It is called what the market will bare. Spokane is right next to Idaho who has lower fuel taxes than Washington, so yes fuel will be cheaper. Same condition as BC/Washington NW border area.

Wow...at my usual station, it's $3.19 for regular unleaded, and still $3.49 for diesel.

I'm certainly happier at $3.49 than I was at $3.89, but we're nowhere close to falling below regular unleaded. Heck, I'm thrilled when we break even with premium/super!

Diesel should be cheaper than gas and was till diesel engines got real popular in pickups then the oil companies got greedy.

Yea.....It is called supply and demand....NOT......greedy oil companys!

Buy coffee at Starbucks? There is a whole lot more that goes into making a gallon of Diesel than a cup of coffee.

Goverment makes WAYYYYYYYYYY more per gallon than the oil companys.

I agree; went to Hill AFB and topped off a 1/2 tank of diesel at $3.929 from AAFES. Off base Diesel is $3.71 at Chevron of all stations, Texaco and Sinclar $.13 cents higher conoco and Maverick $3.759. The Government is screwing the Retirees and Service members.
.48 cents to state and Feds in tax revenue.

There is an estimate that oil is heading to $50 a barrel, or half of current levels.

All you need to do is to drill a deep hole and store a lifetime supply underground until you need it!

Half of $84 is not $50.

$84 is the American benchmark price for West Texas Intermediate.

But those who really know diesel know that the price is set by Brent Crude, which as of today, closed at $96.72, but was about $100 at the time the above is written.

Since the US exports diesel, the higher Brent price mean diesel can be dragged up by that price and the discount relative to WTIC consumers will not see.

Ahhh nothing like oil trading!

Amazing how far a thread can go off track.

My original post was about the possibility of diesel being cheaper than gas. Not how much everyone is paying. Prices will always vary across the nation due to geographic issues.

That won't show a larger trend that may be developing such as diesel prices falling below gas prices. If this takes hold everywhere, it will be big news for those of us driving oil burners.

Diesel down as low as $3.56/gal near my home. Unleaded regular $3.28/gal. Always seems to maintain the 20-30 cent differential between the two fuels. Haven't seen diesel on par or close to unleaded price since the advent of ultra low sulfur diesel.
