My original post was about the possibility of diesel being cheaper than gas. Not how much everyone is paying. Prices will always vary across the nation due to geographic issues.
That won't show a larger trend that may be developing such as diesel prices falling below gas prices. If this takes hold everywhere, it will be big news for those of us driving oil burners.
Not going to happen on weighted US average.
The market is settled down to pricing diesel by energy content, which is a slight premium over gasoline. Not quite 10%, but about 5%.
Europe is starved for diesel, so is Asia.
The only instance it might happen is an inversion where there is a temporary oversupply of diesel vs. gasoline.
Seasonally, if it happens, that is going to be between now and August, as refineries start building No. 2 (fuel and diesel) stock starting August for winter.

Same here but the DW 92 octane is the same as diesel now. Hasn't been that way for a couple of years. That BP plant above Seattle really put a hurt on western prices. (So the news tells me anyway)

The prices in Seattle were horrilble: $4.69 at a Texaco, $4.09 at Shell for diesel.

I've seen splits of upwards of 1.20 gal for diesel in the puget sound region around seattle. Including down to Portland the last few days. Used to be maybe 20-40 cent range. but over a dollar! I've seen a few places where unleaded is more than diesel, but rare still. Seems most diesel is on par with super unleaded.
Filled up earlier in the week at around 3.99-4.10 gal, found it for 3.55 on an indian reservation North end of bainbridge island. Also seen a few in the 4.49-4.69 range in the ballard area of seattle monday! Weird pricing right now!

Ok I am no expert and a friend of a friend of my 43rd cousin twice removed (Actually friend of my cousin) who works for refinery in Colorado stated that when we went to the ultra low sulfur the refineries had to put in millions of dollars systems to get the diesel down to the new EPA standards of ultra low sulfur. This increased the price of diesel. Also it depended on the grade of crude oil and how much they could get out of a barrel. If I remember right he stated that they would get 7 gallons of diesel from a barrel where as they get 25 of gasoline. So the days of saying diesel is cheaper because it is what is left over from the barrel of crude oil are over.
Also here in NM diesel has come down from about 70 cents more than gasoline to gas at 3.49 and diesel at 3.59
Someone told met that a tax on diesel just recently went away here also that could have lowered the price.

Good to hear; moving to Okaloosa County in a few weeks and don't feel like taking the wife's Barbi car back and forth to home before the family moves out.
Gas Buddy lists Regular at 3.12 and diesel at 3.37; didn't see Wallyworld listed, then again don't know the area too well. I'll probably start buying the Murphy cards and get the discounts; hoping to be below $3 by summer's end. Installing an RDS inbed tank; would def. make the trip to P-Cola worth it.

The millions to switch to ULSD was paid for in about 20 minutes of profit.
Crudes vary in the amount of diesel/gas mix yes ,but we (north america) send our excess diesel to europe.
So to them gas is what is left over from diesel production ,depends on your prospective.
I used to be s auto worker but I didnt (dont) know jack about the industry ,same as a refinery worker
