I will be traveling from Binghampton, NY to Old Forge, NY in the near future and wonder what is the best route for this trip? I will be driving our mini van and not the motor home.

The route planner program keeps wanting to route me to Syracuse, to Watertown, then down to Old Forge. It seems easier to take route 12 up through Itica and on to Old Forge.

thanks, snail

Shortest route is obviously through Utica. Likely most scenic as well.

About 145 miles.

Binghamton up I-88 to Colliersville (Exit 17) and 28 all the up. it joins with 12 but stay with the 28 signs.

we are talking wife's home town.

Or you could go 12 to 28. (I-88 better road.)

Since you are in the minivan, depends on what you want. To just get there, and see some scenery, take route 12.

If you want to see lots of the countryside you could take the very scenic route -- follow I81 to NY 26 N into Rome then take NY 46 N to Boonville where you turn right in the middle of town the right onto NY 12 S for a very short distance then a left onto Moose River Road which brings you back onto NY 28 where you take a left over the river. Both the Boonville gorge on rt 46 and the Moose River Road were two of my favorite rides when I lived in that area.
