Thanks, Mike. I found someone on the internet who makes and sells their own bag awnings and if this doesn't pan out, I will ask if they will just sell the bags. I still have to convince the local upholstery shop to not want the arm and leg to sew it on.

sljkansas - I guess this is what screen ribbing is...

photos from google images

Wonder What material you use on the bag to hold this in place... Probably too big to get something sewed in at home...

Something to think about however...

Good news and bad news.
The good news is both A&E Dometics and Carefree of Colorado both sent quick replies.
The bad news is neither will supply the bag only. I asked a couple of folks and the last recorded getting of a bag only was way back in the late 90's. In those days both were small almost family run businesses and not part of large corps as now.
For those in this fate try marine suppliers locally. The marine Uphostry folks seem to have lower pricing and the materials available to do the job.

As a side note: those folks who have a problem with the cording used in the slip in part of the bag, we just use 1/4" cotton rope. Holds up well, and so far we've had no repeat failures where it's been used.

2X the cord rope idea. When we had a PUP in the 90's, our awning bag came apart too at the zipper part of the bag. My DW used the old bag as a pattern to sew a new one with a new heavy duty zipper. The fabric used was a synthetic leather from the local fabric store. In talking to her just now about it, she says it's important to use a strong cotton thread best for that fabric. Ask the store people what is best. She used our home sewing machine to do the job. The bag lasted as long as the original and was in good shape when we sold the PUP.

Our AC cover looks like it might wear off at the slip in part of the bag too. So, we may have to do the same thing with that on our Aliner. But, that is an easy job since the AC cover is so small in comparison. The fabric is a breathable nylon type so it is easier to sew with.

RoyB...
You could get some PVC drain pipe with slip on end caps and screw it to your frame rail on one side. Just drill a 1" hole every couple feet so you can get a washer and self tapping screw in there.

Thanks, Mike, for putting finality to the direct manufacturers. It's off to find a local or 3rd party source for getting these fixed.

Minor Threat - Think I am going to wait out and see what developes from making up a 3rd party bag for a bit.. I got a game plan to get by for a few more camping trips...

I sort of like keeping a quick way to remove the bag as well (I think ) haha...

My alternate plan of using a 12-foot aluminum strip 1/2-inch wide could very easy sandwich everything together including a new piece of fabric holding a 1/4-inch rope inside to slide in the original track. Then I would just POP RIVET everything together every 2-inches or so. This would hold it altogether but the failing zipper some are talking about here is a different story. My zipper is still working so far. My 1/2-inch 12-foot long aluminum strip will mount between the zipper and the new fabric section holding a 1/4-inch rope inside it to fit the original track...

Basically I am just going to pull out all of the original threading and replace all of that with the 12-foot by 1/2-inch wide aluminum strip on both sides and hold it all together with pop rivets install of carrying it all down to a uphostry shop to re-sew it for $200.

My bag is unraveling at the 1/4-inch rope area of the bag that holds it up and soon will just fall down when pulled out of the original track. Just like what happened with a another post on here... The zipper and all of the parts sewed to the top in the inside of the bag is good on mine so far...

Having all the awning fabic and attached support aluminum poles mounted in place just makes it easy to deploy and setup. I suppose you could come up with several ways of carrying all the awning items in the same area and do a manual deployment in a not too difficult way to get it secured to the side of the trailer and setup again to use. The bag idea is just a perfect way to do this without alot of effort...

The beauty of the POPUP is you can assemble almost anything at ground level before you raise the roof which really makes it alot easier to do as compared to something 8 to 10 feet in the air standing on a ladder at the camp site...

My final PLAN-B would be just throw a 30X30 Blue Tarp over the whole trailer and stake off the two sides with tent poles from Walmart to make an awning. I already have done this idea a few times when camping off the power grid and not needing the roof mounted air conditioner unit. This actually gives me a wider porch area then the bag awning did. I actually left the original POPUP awning in place and allowed the 30x30 tarp extend over the top of the awning to give me a well supported and dry porch area to sit under. If I did this as a more permenant solution I would cut out areas in the tarp to set around the roof air conditioner and fantastic fan and just forget about an awning bag setup.

Of course the cheap Walmart tarps only last a couple of years at the most so you would be doing a new tarp every so often which is no big deal at $35 or less a pop. You would be at the mercy of the sudden wind storms that come up as well.

I am already using tarps attached to the two POPUP bed ends now being used as GIZMO's to help with the sun load. Deploying a 30x30 tarp over the whole thing would propably not need the two tarps over the bed ends anymore.

Aw,so, the tarp that ate Tokyo. My wall tent for hunting needs some waterproofing so I tarp it. Use bungies in all your lines. I use 12" spikes with plastic discs so the lines don't slide off. It will take a lot of wind then.
