We tow our 2010 Rockwood 8280 with our 2002 and 1999 f250 PSD's both are extended cab shortbed models, no slider which has not been a problem as the Rockwood works well with the shortbed. As for the truck we have no mods at all on either one and have not had any problems at all either mechanically or towing through the mountains.

I pull a 32' Cedar Creek 12,383 GVWR with my 2000 F250 short box. I have a pullrite hitch which takes care of the shortbox problem.
I have done some modifications to the truck to enable me to do this better. I have upgraded the springs in the front to the 6000lb springs, added Firestone Ride-Rite airbags in the rear. Moved up to Michelin tires with 3460lb load carrying capacity each, added a DP Tuner Chip, ATS turbo housing to prevent surge, 4" exhaust and an AFE intake.
With this truck and trailer fully loaded for a two week camping trip, I am at the rear axle carrying capacity, under for the front axle carrying capacity, over by 400lbs on the total truck GVWR, and under by 1000lb on the GCVWR.
I am sure the weight police will jump all over this, but I have towed my trailer with my friends 2001 Ford F250 without all the mods I have made and it was scary. Mine is quite stable and handles the weight very well.

Not caring at all what the weight police think, I have nearly the same setup, DP tuner etc, mine is the early 99 F350, towing a Montana fifth Wheel at 12740 last weigh in. Tows very well getting 10-12 . Have owned the truck since new, and at this point, and the troubles of the newer trucks, have no plans to change.

As you probably know, most 7.3 owners are very satisfied with their trucks. As stated above, the 4R100 tranny is the weak link. John Wood or Brian at BTS will build you a bullet proof tranny with a life time warranty for a few dollars more than a rebuilt Ford tranny. Install a 6.0 tranny cooler, a DP Tuner, gages, 4"
turbo back exhaust, air bags and you run with the big dogs.

why would you think the short bed is a limiting factor?

I have towed a fifth wheel for 13 years with the ole 99 psd.

no plans for a slider hitch either.

go to a site such as that for the keystone laredo. they used to advertize turning angles with the new syled front caps.

See my sig. No problems to speak of with the truck or trailer. I would use a manuel slider just in case you need it. I have to use mine to get into my driveway and at my storage site.

126k on my truck, I use a edge programer, Tymar intake and stock exhaust with the muffler cut out.

We pull a 29 foot Alpenlite fiver with a 2001 7.3 Ford F250 shortbed 3/4quarter ton. Trailer weighs 10,500 lbs. and we have a Reese manuel slider. The truck pulls the trailer fine with no problems what so ever. Good match and I could not ask for any better towing duo.
