I have decided against a diesel...don't hate, my choice after much research for what is the best fit for "us".. Who has the biggest, baddest, most reliable 3/4 ton gasoline engine in a reliable platform, doesn't matter if truck, or SUV...Please, no brand wars...just straight up specs, and personal towing experience...

I don't know about ratings but my 2005 Hemi powered 2500HD gave me 100k miles of trouble free service with the exception of an a/c condenser cooling fan that I replaced with hand tools. At 100k miles there about, I had the rear end rebuilt as the original carrier bearing were shot in the 10.5" AAM diff. I also replaced the ball joints up front with lots of cussing and skint knuckles. At 120k miles when I traded it, Everything worked great and it burned it's usual .5 qt of oil in it's 5k mile OCI. The Hemi powered Ram gets my thumbs up.

The Ford V-10 is the best IMO of all the gasoline powered trucks. 05 MY and up make 362 HP and 457 Ft lbs of torque and delivers all the torque at 3200 RPM's. It is a proven reliable motor and fun to drive. My 09 F-250 6.8L, 5 sp auto and 4.10 rear is a towing machine.

Cammed 6.0 puts everything to shame. Getting close to 100K miles, still no repairs beyond basic maintenance. And I'm not shy about towing 14K a couple of times every month. I got 'em ALL beat, both HP and MPG, just spec your cam right.

Given the present instabilities in the diesel marketplace, troubles with used units from improper maintenance, bad fuel, etc. it is best to avoid the diesels unless your needs dictate that is the only viable choice.

Either 3/4 ton gas will do the job. I tow with the Chevy 6.0 and am very pleased with it. Very little needed replaced items for 160K miles and it has pulled the majority of its life. I believe that you should drive them all and see what is the best suited for you. I feel they all have good/bad things about the brand ect.. Either way you slice it, its your money buy what you want. My preference is Chevy 6.0 or 8.1, or the Ford V10, then the Dodge 5.7. But again my preference only due to the whole package not just the engine.

You've added a custom camshaft to your 6.0 Chevy and you're claiming more power AND better fuel mileage? Who are you kidding?

IMHO... All brands are pretty reliable right now.

The Ford V10 and the GM 8.1 are IMHO the "biggest and baddest" out of the 3/4 ton gassers.

Both are reliable, both have some issues. But IMHO buy the truck you want, test drive them, find out which fits better.

I recommend to buy a 2wd unless you just "need" a 4x4. You will get a lower CG and a slightly higher payload rating. Both help towing prowess.

BTW... great decision on a modern gasser... you will not be disappointed. (Diesels have their place, so not throwing down on them)

Thanks!

Jeremiah

We have an '05 F350 V10 and pulls our 5er quite well and we are 10K pounds. I would tell you to get a 350/3500 in what ever you get for the extra payload just in case you upgrade later.

Cons: The interior of our '05 is no frills after being spoiled by our '04 F150 Lariat.
