Beautiful cool weather. Leaves might be a little past peak by then.

Probabaly will be a little late to see the color changes, especially if the weather cools off as it can by early October.
Asheville is a beautiful place to visit.
In October, it can be in the 60's during the day and drop down into the 40's at night, maybe a little cooler getting closer to November. We were there in March, it was 80 during the day, the next day it snowed!
Be prepared for weather changes, and have a great time!

We camped in Cherokee a couple years ago during Columbus day weekend. Temperature dropped below freezing then. So in October your temp will vary. We could easily say one thing and it will be the opposite. Plan on cold weather but bring your shorts just in case.

We have reservations at the Davidson River CG in Pisgah NF for October 19&20th. We live about an hour south. Our peak down here is right about that time, but I'm afraid Asheville is usually 3 weeks or so ahead of us. The foliage change moves down the mountain by elevation, if you stay in a valley, you'll have a better chance of color.

I have the week of Columbus day off this year. We will probably make our last trips of the year around that time. And yes in the mountains. Need to start looking for those ceramic heaters while they are cheap. Hehe

yes a bit past peak I would think on the leaves.

could be cold, you could be in shorts

I stayed at KOA Asheville East (and visited Asheville KOA West).

East is more family/kid type cg with nice river running thru for tubing.
Pool is ok. Trains come right by and boy you hear them, but again, it was ok.
Kinda old and tight in a way. But well maintained. People were friendly.

KOA West is very wooded. Quiet. Pool ok. Big rigs were parked. No one around. did I say very quiet kinda no action. big sites. No people around so I couldn't tell ya if they were friendly or not.

At least it was quiet enough that you could hear the banjos. Lol

yes LOL

KOA West is more of a one night stopover for me. even the playground was way down around a curve and just had one little set. Kinda like it was 'uninviting kids'

But KOA East was hopping and everyone smiling and having a good time tho.
