I am looking to replace my contractor type generator and replace with a 'very quiet' 2000w inverter generator. I have seen many brands on the internet that range in price from $385 - $1000. They all look like they would do the same thing. Should I go for the best price?

I would ONLY consider a Honda or Yamaha. They are the best generators on the market hands down. And WE all thank you for getting rid of the genaracket

I know I'll get flamed, but please don't camp next to me with a running champion.
Sorry, I know they are good generators, but every time I've been near a champion it has been much noiser than a honda and to me not camper friendly.
Stick with a honda 2000, honda 3000 (NOT the 3000 handi please, again to noisy) or one of the quite yamahas.

We went through the same thing last month and God knows we love a bargain, but the Honda eu2000i's won in the end.
The "bargain priced" units also, seem to be offered, often as "refurbished" on a lot of sites. (Telling us, the mfgr. can't get it right, the first time.)
I guess it was long term reputation and mfg quality, plus the more expensive Yarmahas and Hondas seem to hold value. Clean, used units were selling for the same price on eBay, as we paid for our's new.
We got an eu2000i, an eu2000i companion, a parallel cable kit and a rv plug adapter for $1959.00, delivered (price included double boxing with foam for shipping protection.)

Honda 2000 don't have electric start. but, heck they don't need it.
They start so easy, DW can fire them off. (It's kinda like having remote control, actually.)

This is our 5th year using our Yamaha and starts right away and that is what I care about the most...and the quiet.
