DW and 8yr old daughter are looking to go on a vacation the first week of July. Last year we had an opportunity to drive a class A from Florida and return home stopping at Mrytle Beach along the way. We had a great time and would like to do something similar. Driving to MB this year may prove to be slightly over budget in the Rig however I hear Virginia Beach is amazing (More to do?) and it's alot closer (save 12 hours round trip). My wife can't seem to find any campgrounds that are on a beach there like we found in South Carolina. Can anyone on here recomend or point us to one that perhaps she's not finding? Maybe a secret local park? It would be amazing if we could walk in flip flops or bare feet to the beach.

I'm wanting to go rving but my wife is pointing out we can drive our Jeep to South Carolina and stay in a condo for cheaper.. I'd rather not. Any suggestions? Much appreciated.

First Landing State Park. May be tough to get reservations for that week at this point though.

Assateague Island National Seashore and Assateague State Park are located on the Eastern Shore of MD right on the beach. There is also Kiptopeke State Park a little further south on Eastern Shore in Virginia.

Holiday-L-Travl PArk is in VA Beach but still not quite on the beach. A very short drive and you are there. They are free parking at a lot for campers. I would not say Va Beach has more to do than Myrtle Beach though. We live in Va and prefer Myrtle over Va Beach.

We stayed at First Landing a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Our site was right next to the barrier. You could see the beach, but not allowed to cross, but you only had to walk a couple hundred feet to go on the boardwalk that lead down to the beach. We had no trouble getting in, but we were there during the week, not on Friday or Saturday. Very enjoyable watching the ships. Had a little museum. Don't think the area has as much to do as Myrtle Beach, but we enjoyed being there.

Thanks for the suggestions. looks like Assateague State Park has no services? First landing looks nice but I guess I'd need to call to see if they had availability. holiday-L-Travel seems like a great park, treed, even pools but 2 miles from the beach.. No toad (or rather hookup for toad) so bit of a hike in the heat. Not getting a good vibe on the whole VB thing.. Maybe I need to look elsewhere.

How about Ocean City Maryland. They might have camping on the beach and even closer to you than Va Beach

A few options where you can see the water from your site, if you are lucky enough to get one.

Delaware Seashore State Park...WES, has view of Inlet, 1000 ft walk to Ocean.

Castaways in Ocean City MD...Nice bay front sites and view of barrier island and Assateague full hookups, tons to do

Frontier Town in Ocean City MD... like Castaways regarding view, but no beach, does have Marina, water park and Western theme park, tons to do

Cherrystone in Cheriton Virginia..Great views of Chesapeake Bay, no beach, has marina, several pools, tons to do

Tall Pines Harbor in Sanford Virginia... Sites right on Pokomoke Sound (Chesapeake Bay) Tons to do and one of our favorites

Kiptopeke State Park in Cape Charles Virginia...Has full hookups, nice trails and a great beach, but the view is blocked by a wooded area.

BTW, regarding Delaware Seashore State Park. I will be there soon and plan on getting some detailed pictures of the layout, including the new bridge.

Full timing it since July 2012 My pics

Yeah sorry, but I would not say that Virginia beach is amazing. I would put myrtle beach much higher on the pedestal than va beach.
