I keep seeing on my home cable TV that Dish network is either planning or already has cancelled the AMC channel. Is this true?

I'm currently on Directv but if Dish does it Directv may also, and if they do that won't leave much to watch. Out of the 150 or so channels these satellite companies say they have, unless you love sports, keeping up on the news constantly, or watching QVC shopping type channels, there really aren't that many channels for entertainment. If it weren't for the fact we camp a lot in places where there's no TV reception except satellite I'm not sure these companies are worth anywhere near what they charge per month, let alone all the hassel to get something changed or completed.

Apparently Dish & AMC could not reach an agreement. Does not have anything to do with DirectTV.

This is how AMC handles their contract negotiations with cable and satellite companies. We have AT&T UVerse and they did the same thing a couple years ago. It seems that AMC is strong arming these companies to get a better deal and they want their subscribers to help them out by calling the cable and satellite companies directly. In our case a satisfactory deal was worked out and it was a non-event. I'm sure it will be the same for Dish as well.

That seems to occur about every 3 yrs or so when contracts run out. We've had same issue with both because of Versus channel (owned by cable giant comcast, of course). They will go without for about 3 mos. then it gets resolved.

We've bounced back and worth between dish and directv over this issue.

Comcast is always trying to divide and conquer, by getting dish/directv customer upset and leaving their providers. comcast looking for some crumbs.

Besides, it give us something to bat around for a day or so!

AMC is on channel 9609 currently on Dish Network. Do not know if this is permanent.

I am kind of thinking about kicking the Sat DVR habit. If you had a computer you could record over the air antenna TV you would be partially there.

Thanks for the info. I knew Dish and Directv weren't connected in any way but figured if AMC was putting the pressure on Dish it wouldn't be long before they'd get to Directv.

Happens to one or more providers or carriers every few years. They both lose during a black-out

TCM is a much better choice for movies than AMC IMHO. Who wants to watch classic movies that are edited and crammed full of commercials?
