Here is my dumb question for the day.
I know you do not want the duallies kissing but what really happens if they do now and then? They are turning together so it is not like they will rub much. So if they are close and you hit a hard bump that compresses them some times what damage to the tire do you really get?
I'm thinking the G rated tires may run a little cooler and have less of a bulge at the bottom. Am I wrong in thinking this? I know my rear axle on my 31' tioga runs near max weight all the time. I do not want to overload it but the E rated tires get a workout.

I don't know anything about, if they kiss now and then.
But spacing is important so rocks don't stuck between the tires.

So with all this talk I went to see who had what tires and I'm only finding trailer tires that are G rated.
Who has 235/85r16 G load rated tires that are not trailer tires?

Outstanding question!!

So far I can't locate one.

Probably (just guessing) it's because all trucks nowadays over a ton and a half rating (i.e. 500/5000 series on up) may be designed by manufacturers to use tires on rims with larger diameters than 16 inches. Most likely Load Range E tires on 16 inch rims can handle all design loads for 400/4000 series and smaller trucks.

I seen Geo, Samson, but remember trailer tires have stiffer side walls don't see why not use them. They are also rated for heavy loads. Tm sure there are more company's who sell them I'm sure if you have a mind to and look hard you can fine them. Mine are by Samson 235/85-16 load range G I live in a small town and a mom and pop got them hard to believe some one live in a large area shouldn't have a problem with a real tire shop. By the way Knoxville,TN sell there brand at Camping World.

Here's another guess on my part - perhaps tires intended for use on vehicles carrying people have some DOT safety requirements for their manufacture that trailer tires do not. Hence some trailer tires are available in sizes not available for vehicles?

Better than tire people or people guessing is some study on the Internet of the experiences of hundreds of people of all types with tires in all situations.

You might want to learn more of the difference between bias ply tires and radial ply tires and how each type acts on both passenger vehicles and trailers.

IMO guessing is guessing and many talk about things that are not true. I will stick to real tire people in the real world....
