I've seen some places selling the Champions for $700. For two, maybe three C-notes more, I can have a new Honda eu2000i. Whomever is setting the prices on the CPEs is pricing them out of a viable market niche.

That was my thought exactly.

I have yet to see them in our local Sams Club and Costco. If they aren't substantially cheaper than the Red or Blue, I wouldn't bite.

I picked up a CPE @ Costco 3 weeks ago. I paid 475.00 for it From what I understand, they get a shipment in late spring.....and that's it. The same night I purchased mine I stopped in Cabela's to get the parallel kit and the same unit (different color) was going for 700.00..... Greed is out there.

They look like the Champions. One potential massive difference is customer service. I have only heard raving compliments on Champion; lots of complaints about the other no-name importers.

Costco doesn't list the stuff on their webpage that they carry in stores. My local stores here in Northern Utah still have them in stock for approx $480. I have one of the yellow ones, Costco carries the yellow ones. I belive the photo is of the champions (CPE) Champion Power Equipment.

They won't power a 13.5K Air conditioner as they are only rated for 1600 watts contiuous. Keep in mind, that the yamaha and Honda 2000 units are about the same power output, and they won't reliably power one either, although some people have been able to run one at lower elevations with all three units. I wouldn't recommend it though as low voltage can burn up your compressor motor. You really need a 3000 watt unit to run your Air Conditioning.

Yea mine won't power my 13.5k AC either and I'm at sea level. Never had the need for the AC were I camp though (Coast and Sierras). The CPE is sufficent for my needs of occasionally running a coffee pot or microwave and charging my house batteries.

Searching_UT brings up a good point: Continuous ratings. Most of the portable generator model numbers are near the surge rating, not the continuous rating.

My local Costco had a couple in stock on Tuesday evening. Saw them down the isle, didn't look at the price though.
