Four months ago I lost my wife. We always did everything together including traveling to 48 states in our 5er. I now look at our RV sitting in the drive wanting to go someplace but am concerned that without my DW that I will not enjoy the experience and will be like a third wheel at the campground. Would like to know how others have dealt with this issue.

Prayers and condolences for you, Ron. 4 months isn't very long and with a solid marriage it takes a lot longer to get to that point where the pain isn't excruciating over your loss. You just might need more time. Join a local grief support group. Start volunteering with your local community service clubs and faith group. At least once a week get around others who are supportive. Most importantly, give yourself time to grieve.

When you think you're ready take the rig to a local state park for a long weekend and see how you're feeling about it. Something that might help in future is to get a smaller trailer or motorhome and make it your own. But give yourself time.

Sorry for your loss. As mentioned, four months is not very long but summer is now so if you feel that you want to go, then go for it. It most likely won't feel the same but it may very well still be something that you enjoy, just in a different way.

You won't know until you try it.

First, decide whether you'd prefer being alone or joining a group or whether to re-visit familiar places or try new ones.

I gave it a try to see how it would be and decided that I had to totally change my TYPE of RVing. Used to travel close to 20,000 miles a year with my DW but without her It just wasn't the same. Now I take short trips to visit friends and family or actually go WITH friends or family. You won't KNOW how much you enjoy the same old lifestyle until you actually try it. Each person will be different. Good luck with your decision / Skip

As others have said, 4 months isn't much. My father didn't do very much for the first year after my mother died. They were together more than 40 yrs. After that year, he became more active.

When military service took me away from my family for 2 yrs, I had to find other things to keep me occupied.

You just have to give it a shot and see how it feels.

see if you can find a camping club to join. or check into camp hosting at small state parks and get to know the park people.
do you have any kids, grankids, nephews, etc who'd enjoy a trip or two?

The crowd that I camp with would be pleased to have you join us at our campsite and you would not be treated as an intruder, outsider or 3rd wheel. Most campers love company and would certainly enjoy conversation from a new source, our stories are getting a little stale
