You'd have to look up the tow rating of your current truck and the rating of the Titan and compare them. I suspect they are similar. The Titan V8 probably has more HP but the trucks are similar. If you really want to upgrade your truck for towing purposes I would look for a 3/4 ton truck. Any brand's 3/4 (2500 series) will be a significant upgrade from a 1/2 ton (which is what the Titan is).

Make sure that you have ALL of your trailer specs with you if you go TV shopping. Trailer weight and tongue weight are the most important. Changing rear end gear ratios in your Dodge may help your towing capability on grades but will have a negative impact on fuel economy. Talk to the Service Manager at your local Dodge dealer. If he doesn't know what you're talking about, find a new dealer. Changing rear end gears isn't cheap but it a lot cheaper than buying a new truck.

Went from a Dakota w/ 4.7L to a Titan. The difference with our old 25 ft (5200 lb loaded) TT was significant. The Titan never broke a sweat in the 6K miles we towed it through the western US. Got tired of listening to the 4.7L screaming along in 2nd gear on any hill we hit (I do understand that's okay, but the DW didn't like it when it woke her up!). The Titan just dropped into 3rd in the same situations.

How much does you Passport weigh? Our current TT is in the 7200-7500 lb range loaded. I wouldn't want much more behind the Titan.

I've towed my 19 ft TT with a Dakota 2005 and a 2011 Ram 1500. Big difference! After many years of foreign vehicles, I'm thrilled with the Ram. The new trucks are much different than when it was called a Dodge Ram. In my area, trucks aren't selling and the dealer took10k off sticker before we started negotiating. The question really is Ram or Ford. The Ram has so many great features, Outdoorsman model- that I hope to have it many years. 17 mpg, 12-13 when towing.

It seems to me you ought to take a look at upgrading to a Dodge truck with the 5.7 liter Hemi. It puts out 390hp and 407 ft-lb of torque instead of the Nissan's 317hp and 385 ft-lb of torque while achieving better fuel economy.

Titan is not a significant upgrade imho

I recommend considering a 3/4 ton.

thanks

I have a Ram Outdoorsman and get 21 hwy at 60 mpg, on low hill ground. Towing 4,000 lbs, it drops to 13. It pulls the light trailer as well as my dodge deisel did.

Aside from the Nissan only being a 1/2-ton, it has the least-efficient engine on the market. Only 317 HP from 5.6L! And it's the thirstiest too! It might be fun in a new Nissan 370Z ( 560Z? )
