Thank you again for your candid answers. The advice given from EBay sellers/former EBay sellers is invalueable to me. If selling on Ebay causes me too many problems/too much money then I will quickly reconsider. For now I am going to try my hand with stuff around the house. Hopefully that will give me an idea of wheather I want to continue. Thanks again!

As a new ebay seller, I'll add my $.02. First auction where I actually had a bidder, they decided not to pay or respond to any of my contact attempts. The other posters are correct that I could NOT leave negative feedback on this person, but I could report it to ebay as an 'unpaid item' case. Second auction with a bidder was for local pickup only in Tacoma WA. Winning bidder was in CA and wanted me to mail it. I refused and refunded his payment. Third auction with a bidder completed on Sunday morning. As of Tuesday morning, no payment and no contact. A few more of these and I'll probably head to Craigslist to sell the items that I still have, then find some other way to make a few spare bucks.

Yup, Ebay invited this consequence themselves by weighting themselves to the buyer community...forgetting with no seller, you have no buyers..

Sad to say, time to sell to a good home.

I have sold on eBay since the beginning of eBay. You can make a lot of $$$ or a little depending on how much time you want to put in. I now routinely make a few hundred a month spending money. I put in maybe 10 - 12 hours a week.

Pretty close to minimum but then I enjoy it and put in the time when I have nothing better to do. I especially enjoy having an excuse to go to auctions & garage sales. The profits support my hobby with even some $$$ left over.

I'm sure I sounded negative in my article, but the early days of EBAY were really very glorious days that no longer exist! I was probably one of the very first members to buy and sell books on EBAY and I did very, very well! There might be a lot of listings, but when you do a completed auctions search you will see that a lot of products are not selling (especially motor homes).

I decided, that for the money I would make, selling now on EBAY was not worth it! Facebook is an incredible FREE tool that allows me to promote my "Shades Of The Past" wall art, digital restoration and my volunteer photography work with the Humane Society. Communicating with people who view my posts is most exciting. Selling work is even more exciting!

My Facebook address is in my signature. I invite you to visit. If you like what you see, I will honor a Friends request.

I'll never forget all of the enthusiasm that existed in those early years (1997-1999)...I'm sure in hundreds of auctions, I had somebody who didn't pay...I can't recall...

Too many scam stories for me to want to deal...I buy something now and then...am concerned until it arrives in the mail.

Just yesterday we sold an item out of our EBay store, selling price $949. We always require an adult signature for delivery, and the buyer complained that since he isn't home during the day, he would have to go to UPS to get it. But only with proof of delivery do we have Seller Protection. He finally saw it our way, but you have to cover your rear no matter what. Never give in to complaints about UPS being too expensive, or how much trouble it is to sign for it.
