We just had to put injectors and a fuel pump in our 2002 truck.$$ I am a little paranoid about trying to pull our 2002 35 ft 10,000 lb 5th wheel now due to NOT wanting to buy a transmission as well.
Both are paid for and don't really want to sell, but want some opinions of those that have been had experience with this set up. So what do you think?
So far we have only pulled it to the beach and a local lake for month long stays.
We bought a popup to try to fix so we can take that to the
Smokies, but as usual more was wrong with it than we thought so it may take awhile.
Where is that 10,000 number coming from? Is that the trailers "dry" weight or GVWR?
From personal experience and depending on cab configuration your available payload could be as low as 1700 pounds. So even if the 10K is loaded ready to camp weight you are very likely over the trucks GVWR. So, what do YOU want to do?

I have a 05 SRW 3500,two wheel drive. Have pulled my trailer over 70,000 miles, 147,000 on truck now. Trans went out before I had ever pulled the trailer as I had a truck camper then. When I overhauled the trans I put in a shift kit so that it now shifts quick, no slip between shifts. Good luck.
My 2001 duramax had new injectors at 70000 miles. It pulls 12000 lb 5th wheel. I have 140000 miles on it now. Working good.Over the trucks GVWR by a couple of pounds.

You didn't ask about payload, so beyond that possible issue, your truck has the same engine, tranny, and drivetrain that it would have if it were a 3500. Injector failures happen but those are behind you. The Allison is more than capable of pulling that trailer. And is the same tranny that would be in the 1 ton truck. All the repairs that you MIGHT need in the future are cheaper than a new truck. Don't let worry ruin your fun.
I have an 06 2500 crew cab 4wd with the Durmax and pull a dry weight of 9860. I am unsure of the loaded weight because it changes depending on destination, but my truck has 220000 miles and have had no trouble out of truck. Routine oil changes and tranny fluid make the life of a towing truck IMHO.

It is also the same engine and trans in the 4500 Kodiak as well.
The 4500 has a different power rating dur to different programming.
Other then payload (tires, fenders, and springs), there is little difference between the 2500 and dually.
