Can anyone share their experience with towing a 2008 Miata 6 spd. std trans. Will it hurt the trans? What tow bar have you used? Can I install the backing plate on the car myself (moderate mechanical ability). Where to buy tow bar and backing plates.

If I remember correctly, there was a guy named (ron ditmer) using a PC cruiser towing the same.
Look him up with the "search"

From the Remco Application charts:

"1989 - 2011 Mazda Miata/MX5
Application Notes
Both Manual & Automatic require a trailer to tow.
Engine:
ALL
Drivetrain:
RWD
Transmission:
Manual/Automatic"

It would appear there is either a trailer or a different vehicle in your future.
Good luck.

Bob,

I towed a 2000 5-speed Miata over 35,000 miles

and have now towed our 2010 PRHT 6-speed just over 10,000 miles in the 18 months that we have owned it.

PM me with your Email address and I will tell you what you need to know. I will help you all I can.

Hey Tim, really miss our Miata. We switched to a Liberty 4x4 to explore the desert and mountains better. But don't have the fun a Miata gives you with the topdown in the curves!
Did you use Rennenmetal for the new towbar?

Aw!!! That's too bad. The Miata WAS fun though, wasn't it?

I'm still MUCH more into Zoom-Zoomin' than I am into trail crawlin'.

Nope. If you'll remember, Rennen makes baseplates and then only for the NAs & NBs. Roadmaster Towing is the ONLY company that makes a baseplate & Brackets for the Miata NC (2006-2012).

The NA & NB baseplates mounted IN the grille. To mount the Roadmaster on an NC, EVERYTHING forward of the hood opening must come off.

I DID use the Roadmaster Falcon tow bar and everything looks pretty good when finished.

Have fun with your Liberty and rest assured, I AM having fun with our Miata.

Tim
