"To appreciate how really great a job is, one has to remember the worst job. That pressure washing the hog barn probably built character."
MY worst was a summer job during my college years. My Dad got me the job - Cleaning and repairing tank cars on the repair tracks at a major solid shortening and soap making company. Only two things came into the yard in tank cars. Soy bean oil for making solid vegetable shortening, and rancid fat for making soap. Skunks used to hide from me. It did make me buckle down to finish my degree.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
Some surely didn't like their boss but I really did. He was so good to me and let me make up my own mind as to what I wanted to do and when I could take the day off or take a lot more time off. He even let me set my own salary and benefits and be the boss over the others and make all the decisions. Seems I really know him well and we have a superb relationship. I see him in the mirror everyday and have for as long as I can remember and he looks exactly like me. A real twin!

I've done a number of different things in my working life, predominantly in health care but with a few forays into the likes of truck driving and restaurant ownership X 2. I retired as a Hospice RN 13 years ago. It was truly rewarding work. I really enjoyed the restaurant business, but it's not so much a job as a marriage.
From the time I first entered the workforce at age 15, my goal was to retire at 50. I made it at 49. Work was ALWAYS a means to an end, not something that defined me.

You need to manage 'today' while you search and find that special thing you can reasonably switch to. Risk management is a part of life.
I loved about 33 of the 35 years of my work. I was senior middle management IT for the government. Won't bore you with the details. I will say that when you find that special job, it won't feel like a job but rather a hobby. You will excel at it because you enjoy it. They won't be able to wipe that smile off your face without a magic eraser! With luck and good management you will find it and with 'lottery type' luck you will be with nice fun people to be around.
I am not trying to discourage you. At your age I almost made a few bad moves (My wife is a smarter than usual person & helped me through the bumps in the road...lol).
I wish you the very best.
This is a good reply! about 18 months ago I quit my IT job in middle management because I was VERY unhappy and it affected me and the whole family. I worked for a year at an entry level third shift job and now have just started a Senior position with a bank so far that I enjoy! I hope to fit in here so I really like coming to work, still too new.
My worst job was in college, I was a pig flipper. In a huge hog processing plant, after the hogs were killed, drained and hair removed, they shot down a shoot at me where I grabbed them flipped them over(seemed like they mostly came at be backwards...) and positioned them on a moving belt. Very hot and very wet and at one point we could do up to 6500 hogs a day.

Thanks for your purchase today. People that bought "I Love My Job", also bought "Love At First Sight", "Happily Ever After", "Till Death Do Us Part", and "All Good Things Happen To Good Persons".
I grew up on a farm and still miss it.. I kind of liked making things grow.
Then I banged around in many jobs (Miller, Machinists, Salesman retail and door to door, Security Guard and finally roofing for a few years)
Then I got a job telling cops where to go,, Now that job I really liked, Many can sleep better thanks to my taking that job.. Some because the car thief who would have stolen their car is now retired (or at least temp retired) and others (Said Thief) because they no longer have to worry about "The Man" tossing their sorry behind in the slammer.. (Just what the judge says in the morning).
However the Male bobine produced organic ferterlizer was getting a bit deep so I retired.
And yes, I now LOVE my job.. Or as the T-Shirt says (Yes, I ahve the T-Shirt)
I'm Retired, Having FUN is my job!
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

When that goes into effect I will come into the office and proceed to dump gasoline all over this bridge and burn it to the ground.
Um,, you should edit this. Where I'm from saying someting like this will get you jail time. Even if your only joking.
Apparently you've never heard someone say "I burned that bridge" or "you dont wanna burn that bridge" etc etc etc. It's a figure of speech. Like when you go in and quit your job out of the blue instead of giving a 2 week notice. Chances are you "burned that bridge".

Ohhhh, OK. No we don't use that expression around here. Although, I have heard "Don't burn your bridges until you cross them". I suppose your expression is a off shoot of that one. Still, it could be taken the wrong way so be a little careful saying anything even slightly like that. There are people in jail in my area for saying less. But, not everywhere is like around here.
