Got a '12 Ram Laramie Crew Cab w/ 5.7. Rear end is 3.55. Trying to find out tongue limit. There is general information on the bumper cover for general towing with what looks like the limits for a ball attached right on the bumper. The truck has a Class IV Hitch installed. Ram Site states can tow up to 8500. Wont go near that with the new TT but just don't know what the tongue can hold w/ a WDS. Thinking of a front kitchen and they are a bit heavier up front. Any help is appreciated.

Congrats on the new truck. Look inside the driver's door for the payload sticker. Tell us what it says and that will help with your trailer search.

The ram will run out of payload first and that will limit whatever tongue weight you can handle. The hitch should have its max printed on it - one with WD and one without. Without knowing exactly I think the coil rear end on those is good for about 1200-1300# payload. Subtract all your in truck gear and passengers. Subtract the weight of the hitch itself. I bet you end up with a 600-700# tongue weight max.
I had an 04 Hemi crew cab - put airbags in rear to help but my HTT sagged it out with a bed full of stuff!

The tongue weight rating should be on the receiver. Do check the paylod sticker (door jamb) to see if you can use it all.

I have the 2011 and they are great trucks but you may wish you had the 3.92 gears if you pull often. Congratulations on your new truck.

Tongue weight you see on the receiver is almost meaningless. It states the weight that particular HITCH is rated for and does not apply to the vehicle. You can get a hitch rated to pull 3500# for a Toyota Corolla. Doesn't mean the car is rated for that. Look in your owners manual, they should have a section that shows all the different combinations and how much you can tow as well as haul.

IF it fact your truck in it's particukar configuration is rated to tow 8500 LB. Then the trucks max rated toungue weight, In all likely hood will be 850 LB with a WDH. Most, Manufacturers use 10% of the towing capacity for their rated tounge weight.
Reading the hitch will be useless, and the factory hitch installed on every truck will have the same rating. It's the truck itself you have to find out about. My truck has a hitch rated to 9500lbs, and 950 lb tounge weight with a WDH. The truck will not tow 9500lbs. But another version of it will. So they just use the same hitch for all.

If you want the facts, go to the source. The following link takes you to the official RAM towing guide.
Ram Truck Towing Guide
Click on the "Open Details" tab next to the model of truck you bought. You can play around with the number of passengers and use the slider to see the trade-offs between total towed weight and payload. The 8900 pound figure assumes your tongue is weightless. A more realistic figure might be 7400 pounds trailer weight, 2 passengers and 1000 pounds of tongue weight and other stuff in the cab and bed.
Edit: I just bought a 2012 Quad cab with the 5.7 liter Hemi and 3.55 rear axle ratio and 6 speed auto. The power-train is extremely strong. As someone already mentioned, the limitation in towing capacity is related to the smooth riding rear coil springs. For my purposes, the superior ride trumps the higher base towing capacity of the other half ton trucks.
