Good Sam routing takes us this way, but when I talked to the CG owner, he said that between Aspen and Basalt the lenght limit was 35' and we have a 39' 5W. He said togo to Leadville on to !-70 and back around west to enter 82 from I-70. Anyone driven that way west to 82. Thank you.

We have driven on Highway 82 in a car from Leadville to Aspen. It is very winding an very scenic.
I found this Info on Highway 82 . There are restrictions.
Seems like a long way to go around to Basalt (to me) but can't think of anything else you could do that would be easier.

Don't even try it.
The 35 foot restriction is for total vehicle. Your 5th wheel is longer than that. What about your tow vehicle?
There is a narrow section on the west side that only a single vehicle can go through. That is even cars.

Find the FAQ for Independence Pass.
The person who designed the Good Sam routing probably has never driven that route. Plus driving through Aspen pulling that 5th wheel would not be easy even if you could use independence Pass.

TNX for the fast info. Will go the Leadville, I-70 route. Sure the routing is computer generated although you have given them your needs. Usually, it is very good, but very the CG owner mentioned it. That's why I like RV.net. Someone has been there and will tell you what you need to know. Happy 4th to everyone.

No one designs the routes given by online maps or GPS units. There's a computer program that searches the road database, trying various combinations that go from A to B, and then picking the best. The 'best' might be the shortest, though usually 'fastest' is the best criteria.
Ideally the data base should have information about restrictions, such as the 35 ft length, and the search program have a means for you to specify your criteria. Programs marketed to commercial truck drivers do have features like this (including overpass heights). Free ones aimed at the general public usually don't have the extra bells and whistles.

It is a great motorcycling road but not recommended for any type of RV. I've followed short Class C motorhomes up from Twin Lakes and they don't do well. Oncomming traffic has to stop on some corners to let them have the whole road. Don't try it. I-70 will be your friend.
