I have a 2007 Roadtrek 170. Just got back from a wonderful 10 day camping trip in the eastern Sierras (north of Bishop). However, my Dometic refrigerator was freezing most things in the frig compartment even though I turned it down from the normal level of 3 to 2. The frig and freezer were full, though the same thing happened earlier in June when the frig didn't have much in it at all.
Advice is needed on possible causes and what to do about it! I try to be level when the frig is operating but am not always 100% level.
Thanks and a happy 4th to all!

The chances are that the thermistor has failed. I'm not as familiar with Dometic fridges as with Norcolds, but I think both use a thermistor on the fins in the back of the fridge. If it fails thE unit goes into a continuous cool mode which will freeze everything. The good news is that it's cheap and easy to replace.

Hi Mimi, it most likely is the thermistor. It is attached to the cooling fin on the fridge. You might see if it has come loose.
1) the thermistor has worked itself loose from the cooling fins.
2) the thermistor is no longer on third fin from the right ( might depend on your model)
3) the thermistor is failing.
Take it to a Dometic certified repair place, and have them check it out, and get it serviced.

The thermistor is a round white wire usually in the back part of the refrig. that goes up to the 1st or 3rd fin. Held there by a white slider.
To check it's function:
Dometic Thermistor To test the Dometic thermistor, disconnect it from the main (lower) circuit board and place the other end (sensor end) into a glass of ice water. After a few minutes you should be able to get a resistance reading of 7,000 to 10,000 ohms between the two terminals of the connector. If the resistance isn't close to those numbers, it is bad.
Circuit board is located behind refrig. Plug is usually at top left(only double plug there.)

I have a 170 also...although new, it's good for me to be aware of this. You just went to the Sierras...any problem with going up the mountains? I have a 4.8 L engine...do you?

Same thing happened to my refrigerator last year. It was thermostat, replaced it and haven't had any problem since.

Marsha...Yes, I have the same engine. No problem going up but I do shift into 3rd or 2nd going down as I've had problems with my brakes overheating. Aside from the Sherwin grade north of Bishop my journey east on 58 to 395 and north on 395 does not include any huge passes.
