Our 93" compared to the 102" mentioned, the 9" difference is huge with interior space and/or features like the bed, closets, etc. I do think though that most of such extra space generally translates to wider isles and more spacious baths. For bigger people, that 9" would be much more valuable than the ease of driving a skinny rig.

Hey Future,
You mentioned that you liked the idea of an island bed. These are hard to come by in the 24-25 ft. range. One option is the Unity 24IB by LTV. Same outfit that makes the 24' with the Murphy bed you were looking at. I haven't seen one in person, but the videos look good.

Actually, over 102" is considered oversize. No motorhome or truck has a body over 102" wide, not including mirrors, grab handles, awnings, etc.
As far as a "wide body" being an issue, I didn't even realize my rig was until I measured it at 101" after driving it for 2 years. The whole time I thought it was 96".

As I understand it, there are some public roads in the U.S. that do not allow vehicles on them beyond a width that elsewhere is legal - and that width can be considerably less than 102 inches. I have even seen warnings to this affect in some RV manufacturer's literature.
Can someone clarify this?
(We were concerned with this on a couple of long RV trips we took back East in the U.S.. However, we did not get up into the Northeastern states on these trips.)

Phil,
as i read somewhere else when the federal government declared 102 inches ok for federal interstates and within 10 miles of the interstates. there are older roads in some states that were built prior to this ruling and they might not be wide enough for some vehcles made after this federal law

While I am certain that there are width restrictions on some roads, my GUESS is that you are more likely to run into length, weight, or height restrictions than you are width. A good trucker's atlas will have these marked.

I just ran across this link that answers my question above ... and also sheds some light on this widebody discussion:

I read on a Michigan map that you can drive a wide body on any road to get to your destination.

Thanks for all of the information and comments. We need to look at floor plans, but I think that the <8' width units are more maneuverable around town. On the open roads width matters less.
