Bottom line, when you lock your rig it is secured. If someone breaks into your rv they should be hung by the left one and given a straight razor. No, not to shave with. If you have guns, money or anything of value in your rv and someone breaks in no one should give the rv owner a bad time, he did nothing wrong. Just give the criminal the razor.

A dull one, preferably.

I hope this is written in the correct section. Last weekend my Wildcat 5th wheel was burglarized. The criminal made off with several thousand dollars worth of items including a loaded handgun. Also taken was a set of keys to my doors on the rig. It looks to me that all the locks will be easy to change other than the basement cargo doors as they are riveted on the door. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to do this . and are all the cam locks universal?

If I had to get into my FW, I could just about rip the doors off by hand; I =know= I could do the cargo doors. A screwdriver could pop the main door pretty easy. On a tin-sided trailer, a drywall saw could punch through and make a big hole in short order. FWIW, my hogleg stays with me at all times; I usually ignore signs and try to stay out of Kalifornicate as much as possible.

At least on my camper all the windows are held in place with screws easily accessed from the outside. When I was resealing the windows last year I was thinking a burgular could easily remove one of these windows in two minutes by just taking out the screws and thus removing the window.

Wow - do some of you folks carry a "hanging rope" in your truck too with some extra torches?

Theft is theft. The more secure, the better chance you have of not being a victim, but there is a point where you just stay insured and not stress about high security. I hold a little bit more of a moral responsibility in securing a firearm, regardless of what the boundary of the law is. Not easy to do in a camper or vehicle, but the extra steps can be taken to make them at least more secure than the TV or the camera.

I don't recall the OP asking for advice on handgun safety, it was about how to change his locks. An interesting topic as we all supposedly have the same key and lock. It would be great to find out how to do that.

I wasn't trying to say the OP didn't make his best effort to secure his items but rather you really can't make an RV secure. They are too flimsy and anyone can get in. We do our best and make it more difficult for slime balls.

The only problem is that the more difficult you make it, the worse they tear your rig up getting in. Let's face it, most trailers sit in storage more than they're used. If some jerk wants to get in it, they can usually take all the time they want to do so.

Read page one. His questions were answered. After that it is what it is.
