Its hard to imagine what was going through these peoples minds. While enjoying the weekend in our local campground for some well desired down time. The weather was perfect and the fishing was great. The campground is well kept and the restrooms and showers are very clean and well stocked. Saturday night at about 2 am a group of people raided the restrooms and broke off the toilet paper holders from the walls and smashed the sinks in 2 of the bathrooms and then proceeded to toilet paper the campground. Its a crying shame that these people were not caught and made to pay for the damage. We all pay the price for these idiots with higher camp fees and the loss of facility's. Not to mention the loss of security of leaving my gear unattended. Some of my brethren have told me that its time to hang it up when you have to cable up your equipment just to run the store. So far I have not had anything taken. What about you?

Vandalism actually makes me angrier than theft because it's so pointless. But either can ruin a camping experience. Sorry it happened to yours. I would wager they were drunk teenagers.

I'm a government park camper. Well, actually a working full timer. I use PA occasionally, but primarily, I've camped in Fed/State/City and County campgrounds all over the east (primarily in the S.E. where weather permits) for the past 8 years. I know for a fact I've been in campgrounds with homeless folks residing in tents with local church support. I've been in a few places where the facilities were quite dated. I've seen bath house facilities that have been marked with graffiti to various degrees, but no damage of which you describe. Not that it doesn't occur, understand. While I put things away when away from the camper, I've never had anything disturbed when left out over-night while I was on site. Guess I'm blessed. I just try to be a reasonable and prudent camper.

Only time I've had something stolen was coming back from a trip. Stopped at a hotel, and the next morning someone went to the trouble of unscrewing and removing a tail light from our truck. No other damage.

Who says the teen-agers are drunk? I'd sooner believe they were "high" on illegal or semi-illegal drugs... Some people are just stupid. And who's to say it was a teenager at all? It could be an angry fisherman that caught a catfish instead of a bass. Maybe someone had a run-in with campground management. Maybe it was anger between spouses and one of them exploded! Maybe the toilet was clogged and a camper just couldn't deal with not having anywhere to "go"!

To toss blame without more information is really an exercise in futility.

It is a sad day to hear of vandalism at any campground, for any reason. Times are changing. But why do crowds of people destroy entire city blocks when their sports team looses at a pointless ball game? (aren't there greater issues in life than loosing or winning a ball game when next week, today's game is already forgotten and it's just another 'game' to be played again?) Still, people riot and destroy for no reason.

There doesn't have to be a reason or a selected group of people that "might" have done the damage. In today's world, people take out their frustrations (or sometimes what THEY think is funny) in bizzare ways. That's NO excuse for what they did and I'm NOT saying what they did is acceptable either.

Whoever did this should be caught and punished. But there again .... our legal and court system is so twisted (protecting the criminal and making the victim the bad guy - don't ask me how I know), it's awful. Even if the perpetrators are caught, nothing will happen to them, and the campground will be caught in nothing but outrageous legal fees to prosecute and will never recoup a single penny.

It is a sad day we live in!

This is not just a case of careless aspersions being tossed here toward a helpless minority group. In park vandalism cases around here, virtually all were committed by teens. Teens do crazy things. I know because I was a teenager myself once. Didn't get drunk but did some stupid things now and again.
