We had some problems with our Shaw system at the stick house in Canada. Tech replaced the LNB and all is well. However beginning sometime this fall all Shaw LNB's will have to be changed to a new model. There is no charge for the changeout but if you have a dish that is permanently mounted down south you will need to call Shaw and get the new LNB to take along. No big deal to do the change. The software in your receiever will also need updating. This can be done by a tech in Canada or they can send the software to your receiver if you are down south. Hope I have made this clear.

Good Information. I'll be sure to pass this information along to everyone I know who heads South. Not everyone reads this forum!

Rob: I would guess if you have your portable with you it would be an easy job to switch while in Canada. Or Shaw will just send out a tech and you can watch with a cold Corona in hand!

This is the answer I got from Shaw Direct and here is the quote:
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I can further clarify your inquiry. Both of our current satellites are full and at their max for channels. New channels cannot be added without the removal of others. With that said, we have plans to launch a 3rd satellite in late 2012 so that we can expand our channel lineup. At that time we will be able to add over 100 new channels! A new LNB along with a 6XX series receiver will be required so that the channels can be accessed. All 6XX series receivers are equipped so no software download is required (we are unable to send a download through to older models so they will not be compatible). Please be advised that this does not mean that the non 6XX series receivers will not work on the new LNB. They will still work and you will still be able to receive the same great programming on them that you have now but they will not be able to pick up any new channels added to our 3rd satellite. I see that one of your dishes already has the new LNB. Do you mind clarifying which location (your home or your Home Away From Home) require the new LNB. This will help us in determining how to get it out to you and any costs associated. There will not be any cost to upgrade the part but there may be costs associated with shipping or installation.
Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Shaw Direct.

Thanks Gadget Guy: I has asked the tech about the old rcvrs. and he said no problem. But he neglected to tell me about not being able to get the new channels.

I took our new 630 pvr receiver on the road with us, it had been set up with the new lnbf at home. Our set up in the rv has the old lbnf and we got a few channels until we called shaw, they downloaded software so we could use the old lbnf with the new pvr. They told us that when we get back home we have to call them again to use the new lbnf on the dish at home.
Time to get the new lbnf for the rv!

Yes they are. They look similar to old ones, but they also will look at the third sat which is quite close in azimuth to one of the existing sats, hence the similar size.
They mount easily on the existing dish.

Called SD tech support. Guy said I wouldn't need to switch out my LNBs when we head to Texas in the fall. He wasn't about to send me two new LNBs. Guess I will wait and see what happens. Or just buy one from a dealer just in case.

COPY OF EMAIL FROM SHAW.
SEEMS LIKE ISSUE OF LNB FOR WARMER CLIMES IS A NON ISSUE AS IT WONT RECEIVE NEW CHANNELS.
GUESS THIS IS PART OF THE CHANGES WE WILL HAVE TO ACCEPT.
We can ship you the new LNBF before you leave (although to be honest with you there is a very good likelihood that if you are in the lower states—basically south of Idaho line) you will not be able to pick up our G1 satellite anyways. If this is where you like to travel then I would suggest not upgrading since it has no advantage. If you do want to upgrade the cost of doing so would be $50.00+tax.
