Anyone know a good GPS that lists overhead clearances on the roads it maps to? Getting tired of driving down roads my current GPS maps only to find a low overpass. I'm only 12'5" but it seems when its low... its real low. Sure would like a GPS that knows my height before it suggests a route to follow. What do the truckers do? One trucker told me he was 13'6" but many overpasses have a fudge factor built in. Even on I95 I see overpasses listed at below 13'6", so I don't know what they do... take a chance??? Bad day if its the one overpass that is what it says it is. Some may be tempted to say "stick to the main roads and you will be fine"... but I don't too many campgrounds on I95.

We've got an older Tom Tom and have the same problem.

NOT aware of the GPS and bridge clearance thing, but I do know someone who hit a bridge with a truck hauling a backhoe, damaged the tractor and bridge, Cal Trans tried to bill him for the bridge repairs, He took a "lazer measuring devise" and proved the bridge was under the listed clearance, then promply billed them for the repairs of the tractor. Seems like the road had been resurfaced and someone forgot to adjust the signage. Still made for a "Bad day" to say the least. Moral of the story, signs and highway data can be wrong.

We have the same problem with a railroad bridge put up about 1880 when they slightly altered the B&O from Baltimore to Brunswick. Costco openend a major DC (Distribution Center) near this bridge. The turckers were following their GPS and a lot of them tried to make rag tops out of the rigs. MDOT put up laser lights and hanging devices and more signage then you would see for a rock band concert - but these guys blindly follow the GPS. Used to have a CDL, not much fun backing those rigs up 1/2 mile on a two lane road.
Hey you marketing types at TOM TOM - hear that! How about updating the database for 12'6" clearances or less!!!!
Even if it cost an extra $25/yr for updates that is better than replacing the nose on a 5th wheel.

If you see an 18 wheeler traveling on the same road as you. You are good to go.

Well... not really. Its unlikely he is going to the same campground as me. And do I pull off the side of the road until I see an 18-wheeler? How long do I wait? Not a practical solution... IMHO.

The Rand McNally RVND 5510 or 7710 does that. You input your height and weight and it routes you around it. We know the weight part works because we took the GPS from the RV into the toad and forgot to change from RV to toad and we were on a back road and it told us we were too heavy!
We love the RVND 5510. Had it a year.
