Been living in the upper midwest, Wisconsin, for many years. Never have I seen such a long hot and dry spell. It has been over a month since we have had a good rain and the trees are suffering, crops are begging for rain as the corn is starting to tassel and shoot silk forming ears. If we do not get rain soon, there will be little development of the ears. Corn prices will go out of sight making much of our food prices soar also. With prices already high because of the use of corn in methanol even those prices will raise. With all the discussion about global warming, just another cycle and other theories I have a suspicion that it all the hot air being injected into the atmosphere by the politicians. Wisconsin had an unusual recall election where more money was spent than the first Geo. W. Bush campaign. Gotta be the politicians and big money's fault.

Couldn't agree more, Sorry to see that happen to you. There's also the very active sun cycle with solar mass ejections and record UV emissions going on right now. That's a large part of our climate woes and weather at the moment. Not man-made but still a trauma on the weather.

The sun's aging just like the rest of us.

Just for the record corn is used in Ethanol, not methanol. methanol is made from trees I think.

We just had some new heat records set - haven't had this much heat since the 1930's. I agree that this is just a cycle - a miserable one - but we'll get through it.

I should add that some of the local (shallow) wells are starting to suck air occasionally; IMO all the irrigation systems are using the water faster than it can be replaced.....

The heatwave is over, at least here in SE WI.

See: NWS Web Site.

and: Three day WX history for Racine. Note how the temperature dropped when the cold front came through at 6:30 this morning.

My bad! My brain has been charbroiled in the triple digit temps. I have a ethanol field just behind me and one to the west.

I recall my dad telling me how hot it was in the 1930's on the Canadian prairies...so hot they used to fry eggs on the pavement.

It is very hot up here now...but I agree...a cycle.

Next thing you know Monsanto will genetically modify corn to grow without water.
