Hi,
I have one of these in my RV. It looks like L2 (a wire round resistor) and I think ZR1 have smoked. (definitely ZR1). Cant get parts info from the manufacturer (they want to sell me whole unit)...
There are 2 of the inductors, so i should be able to get part info off the good one, but the zener is toasted. It is green, flat about the size of a quarter. Located just to the left of the inner wire wound resister labeled L2. Can anyone see if there is a part number on it? I am guessing it is a 12v zener...for voltage regulation.
But would prefer to have an actual part number.
thanks!

I had the same unit - it's not worth repairing (in fact I still have it in good working order - replaced just for the upgrade). Replacing the charger section with a good 3 stage is a far better choice and your battery will be happier too.
BestConverters.com is a good on-line source.

I had that unit also. ZR1 caught FIRE. Glowed bright green! That unit is Dangerous! Luckily we were still awake. Filled the RV with lots of smoke. Had to leave. I suggest replacing it with one of the IntelliPower PD9200 series, 3 stage, Converter/chargers. I now have the PD9240. Note; Have you had any problem with Ur Generator? If the Gen Voltage Regulator is bad, may be allowing Over Voltrage situation. This will damage items in Ur coach like the Converter. Have it checked B4 frying more stuff.

I suggest you buy a new RV.
Just kidding . . .
Check out this schematic. May be similar to yours. Looks like you may have burned out a 750 Ohm resistor and a 14.1 V Zener. Good place to start. Suspect the 14.1 volt zener sets the max limit for charging your battery. Make sure the battery isn't shorted internally. Might have caused the problem.

PD 4600 series is the one plug n play for your RV per manual if replacing.
I have a 6300 that I keep thinking about upgrading if it fails.

Actually I did just have to replace the voltage regulator on the generator. thought this might be a side effect. Not sure if the 6345 schematic is applicable or not.

ScottG...would you consider selling me your old unit. The generator VR cost me $400 and change...would prefer not to add another $200 to that for now...what would you sell it to me for?

Good to see a few others think about repairs as compared to simply toss in the trash and buy a new one. The Magnetek's make great shop powwer supplies I use a couple of them (saved from the dump) for high current 12Vdc supplies. As you I am ready and willing to purchase what some folks consider junk. A single stage 13.6Vdc high current power supply.
Happy to check the part numbers for you - send a PM if needed

Just curious, is there a fuses located close to ZR1?
L1 is an inductor, not resistor. Is this inductor located at the input stage where AC connects, or the 13.7V dc output stage?

Salvo,
Yes, there is a fuse, a little to the left, behind d1 and c40. And yes, i see it is marked as L1, from what i read on internet it looked like it could be a wire wound resistor...has inductive and reistance characteristics.
As one other comment, not sure if this is near dc out or ac in. I suspect ac in, because i did blow the volt reg on the generator, so i assume that spike on ac input smoked the ckt.
thanks to all...really appreciate the help!
