Has anyone invested in one of those counter top ice makers? We are avid mountain bikers, and find ourselves spending a bit of money on extra bags of ice every time we go camping. I have seen the ice makers for about $150-$200 and would like to know if they work well.

Ours worked great for about 2 summers, then started to leak. Could not find parts. If we were to get another the part availablity would rank high on list. As a $100.00 a year for ice begs other questions. As in Quote: Has anyone invested in one of those counter top ice makers some people have had great luck with theirs we didn't
Used to scare the dog, nobody around and she would hear a clunk of new ice cube and couldn't figuire it out and go hide. What a watch dog.

Ours is a Magic Chef. Got it Home Depot about 4 years ago. Makes more ice than we can use in a weekend.

I want to get one of the 150 dollar ice makers too but have this concern as well. I haven't heard many people say they last much longer than two seasons, and if that is the case, I don't think in the long run I"m saving much money.

How much did you pay for yours if you don't mind me asking? I am wondering if it is the ones that are $300 and up that might last much longer than the ones I am looking for that are 150 bucks or less.

I actually just bought the Dometic from Camping World for $209. I just received it today so haven't had a chance to try it yet. It is bigger that I thought it would be, though.

Finding parts brought me to maybe 5 compamy's making them in China and putting many differant names on them. I'd spring for a big $$ one if it was portable could get parts. The price you pay upfront sure goes down when it is 100 degrees and sipping on a ice cold one or whatever. And when boondocking ice is like gold IMO

Bought ours about 5-6 years ago at Home Depot(129.00, I think).....as long as your deligent about emptying the ice out each time it fills and also keeping it supplied with water, it works Great. I have to say its very quick in making ice cubes.
