Some of you may know that I've been looking for "the one" for about a year (I'm a deliberate shopper!).
Had a good one last fall but didn't know enough then to bite on it fast.
Found another good one this week. Posted on Craigslist Sunday night. I did a quick look Monday night. I went back with the wife for a more thorough look on Tuesday night. Put in an offer on Wednesday night. Seller said it was a little lower than he expected, but felt we could work out a deal, however he & his wife had decided to keep the unit rather than selling it Wednesday afternoon.
Kind of crazy to put something up on Craigslist, find a buyer, but then to stop just 3 days later - but it's his unit so his choice.
"The one" is still out there...

Maybe since he wasn't getting what he wanted. He just thoought he would keep it. More money might drive it off. You never know. You need to want it, more than he wants to keep it.
He said that if I paid his full asking price he might consider selling it. The problem is his full asking price + the approximately $1500 I would have to spend on new tires (which it needs) is within $100 of NADA average retail. I don't consider that to be a good deal on my end. There is one out there that has what I want at a fair price (in my opinion) on my end.

And while you are looking another year of not having an RV goes by. Personally, If I want something and the price is not ridiculous, I buy it. The few bucks I might save by shopping for another six months is not worth the cost of not having what I want. As a side note, using NADA or any other guide as your bible for fair pricing is going to be problematic. For RVs, unlike autos, those guides use mathmatical depreciation schedules, not actual sales data. The guides also do a very poor job accounting for equipment and options. There can be 10s of thousand of dollars of options on rigs and some of those have absolutely no value after the initial purchase and some have 1000s of dollars of value. Condition is also not accurately accounted for in the guidebooks. Just way too many variables and not enough data for the books to be anything but one half a notch better than a WAG (wild arse guess).
What will happen, is while you pass on a MH you really like. someone else will buy it, and be happy.
As for Kelly, and average retail. I just sold my TT for way more than Kelley said I should. He don't know every thing. and I gave them a great deal, sold it for less than I could have. Condition is everything.
A MH, TT, or anything else is worth what you are willing to pay for it.
Can you tell us what you're looking for? I've come across some great deals in my quest for a new rv and would love to pass them along to someone else to look at. What isn't just right for me might be perfect for you!
I looked for over a year...got tired of looking...stopped...began again. I looked at a lot of junk! Never even found one I wanted to test drive. From this forum, someone suggested to expand the look nationwide. Which I did! Found Winnie in Arizona. With the exception of the cabover leak I've dealt with, I love the unit. And, I'm at the point where the leak is under control. What a situation to deal with so early on in Class C ownership. As a teacher, I always believed that every contact was a teachable moment. This certainly has been!
I finally ordered my Eternabond and will Eternabond the roof...when it stops raining. In Southeast Texas its been raining since Monday and should continue through the week-end.
As to your search...continue to gather as much information as possible...look, look and look. When "the right one" arrives you WILL KNOW!!!

As far as just buying it at full asking price, it doesn't make financial sense (yes, I know, nothing about an RV purchase makes financial sense).
The RV + new tires & the other routine maintenance it needs would total approx $51 k.
With that amount I could add another $7 k & pick up a new Sunseeker through RV Direct.
As far as someone else buying it at full asking price, it's not still for sale as he removed the post from Craigslist.
I'm ideally looking for a unit that is around an '08 (+ or - a year or so), with a fiberglass roof (Winnebago, Itasca, newer Sunseeker), no front cabover window, 28 - 31 ft, at least 1 slideout, walk around bed in back, cabover bed, no leaks or delam, within about a 50 - 100 mile radius of the Cincinnati area.
