This morning at 0700 once again I'm awaken by loud motorcycle pipes. The owner blips the throttle three or four times, holds the rpms up for 10-15 seconds then lets it idle for 5 minutes. Man it must be one lame bike if it takes that to warm it up when its 80 degrees outside. No wonder some RV parks don't allow bikes in them. I have been a motorcyclist for 44 years and this behavior is unsat. Who does that? Not worth it to me to complain, as I'm leaving in a couple of days. Loud pipes don't save lives, they just make the owner look very inconsiderate and lame! Just a rant. I feel better now that I'm wide awake.

Sneak over tonite and stick a couple of potatoes up the tailpipe. He will be trying to figure why it won't crank when you leave in a few days.
Actually, some riders would strongly disagree with you about saving lives. They claim that their life HAS BEEN saved due to their noisy cycle!
Personally, having been a licensed motorcycle rider since 1962, I can state that when I had a noisy bike the drivers of four wheeled vehicles seemed to be more aware of my presence than when I had a quiet bike. Perhaps the noise upset them, but they seemed to NOTICE me more!
However, I agree, the scenario you presented is inexcusable.

Or worse yet if you get caught doing it those taters may be stuck elsewhere and it wont take a few days to figure it out!
Same thing happen with the older diesel engines, they start them up 15 minutes prior to leaving anywhere, and sit having that last cup of coffee. I have one of those older diesels, and after starting, i try to idle away from my site within 1 minute, knowing that it is loud in the early morning, in fact at any time of the day.
I used to ride and chose to be aware of my surroundings rather than throwing the equivalent of a 5 year old's temper tantrum every time I started it. But I guess disapproval is better than no attention at all.
I agree that it is a ridiculous start up procedure and this is true of whether it's a motorcycle, a diesel (which frequently live in the fantasy world that tells them it must be warmed up for fifteen minutes before it can tow) or a gas engine with loud pipes. Some people just never grow up enough to get rid of the need for the BUDDEN BUDDEN sound of balons in the spokes.
As for the idea that the noise is a safety factor I think it's total BS. Was he REALLY in danger of being run down while idling in the campground this morning? If a motorcycle rider depends on being HEARD or even depends on being SEEN he's already a walking dead man. The riders own actions are the ONLY thing that will keep him safe on the roads. I ASSUME that every vehicle who CAN pull out in front of me is going to do so (and I'm correct a fairly significant amount of the time).

How inconsiderate! ANY loud noises, pipes, music, dogs barking, kids screaming, that occur during quiet time is a No-No. Even if it is not quiet time, people should be considerate of others. While I'm wishing for nice behavior from all....
