This question/comment is prompted by the leaving things behind thread.
I routinely leave excess firewood behind at my site. Now I realize that by abandoning it I have reliquished any ownership claims that I may have had on it.
In my mind I am leaving it for the person who occuopies the site immediately after me. It kind of bothers me that someone just cruising the CG for wood would take it. I know that the intended person is no less random than the scrounger, but the concept just bothers me. Am I alone in this atitude?

As long as someone who picks it up can use it I'm ok with that. Doesn't have to be exclusive to the next one in that particular spot?

When I leave firewood I know it is going to be confiscated by the next person who sees it and wants it. Many times this is the campground host.

Thought about this too. I figure if the space is unoccupied the next night and a neighbor grabs it that's fine. What would really upset me would be the camp host/management taking it to sell.

Of course I'll be down the road and never know.

Yes, that bothered me, too, when I read it in the original thread. My intention in leaving wood is that the next individual occupying that site will be able to build a fire without having to initially chase wood... he has enough to do already. It is NOT my intention that someone runs around and gets all the wood he needs to live life.

I often will take an arm full to a neighbor. I will also put it back in the truck and use it next time out. I normally don't just leave it at the site. As we members should know, some campers don't like to have camp fires so we shouldn't just leave it stacked nicely near the fire pit.

I don't mind people leaving firewood behind in a neat pile. It is the slobs that leave their trash in the fire rings that bug me.
We don't do fires, since we did them for many many years with our kids when they were growing up, so usually if there is fire wood left, I'll notify a neighbor who has a fire that he is welcome to it.

Why would I care who burns the wood left in ANY campsite?

Hey, if someone drives off and leaves firewood, I'm confiscating it. The way I see it, I'm a camper just like the next one who may be arriving.

What's the issue?

If I leave firewood behind I know that I have relinquished ownership and it is up for grabs. If I'm not OK with that then I will give it to a neighboring camper.

I'm not sure why the OP thinks the camper who will next occupy the site is more deserving than any another camper.
