Trim asparagus and place on a cooking sheet, spray with cooking spray ( I like the olive oil one ) sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place in oven and cook for about 12 minutes, or until tender.
Melt butter in small pan, remove from heat, add soy and balsamic. Stir and pour over asparagus. Serve.
Easy peasy and yummy .

I do it similar, only I brush on sesame oil vs soy sauce and vinegar. The sesame oil has such a nice flavor and it blends really nicely with the asparagus. I put on shredded parmesan (the real stuff, not the powdered kind for pizza) over the top when taking out of the oven and it melts nicely over them. Delish! I love asparagus. Actually grew it for the first time this year, but won't be able to actually harvest til next year.

We BBQ our asparagus. Trim off the bottom 1/4", put in a large zip lock, pour in Zesty Italian dressing, place in fridge over night, remove from bag and place on grill,, turning every so often, remove when they start to get soft, drizzle a little balsamic vinegar over and serve!!!
Asparagus is on my "even" list, along with brussels sprouts, broccoli, carrots, and spinach. I love all veggies, and when I say that, somebody always says "Even (fill in the blank)". I'm going to try the balsamic/soy sauce recipe.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
WE just take the asparagus, put olice oil on it and then salt/pepper. Then we either put them in a pan in the oven under the broiler or we put them on the grill. We prefer the grill. No need to put anything else on them. They are perfect just like that...
