I have the standard scissor jacks to stablize the RV. A couple of years ago the got real hard to crank so I did a Walmart run and got some grease. Put it on... no problem

Fast Forward to today. They scissor jacks started getting a little difficult again so I started to grease them with the same stuff. Now it requires herculian effort to crank up and down.

Not sure what I did wrong.

Any help is appreciatted.

Sounds like a build up of dirt in the grease. Thicker grease will really hold dirt and get extremely thick. Try cleaing off the old grease with a high pressure washer, turning the shaft several times to get all surfaces.

Then apply some type of "dry" lube, a teflon spray or similar material that sprays on and drys, not leaving a sticky surface to attract dirt.

Ditto,I use a dry lub on my scissor jacks for the reason above, to much dirt, same with the trike I pedal everyday, dry lub on the chain to keep the dirt build at bay.

As others stated a dry lube is the best. Dry lube will not collect dust/dirt while driving. The unfortunate offset of dry lube is you must repeatedly apply it. So I carry a spray can in my truck and EVERY time I extend jacks after road travel I spray to prior to and during jack extension. Generally they are still OK when leaving the camp site.

I have always used lithium grease with good results, reapply once a year.

There is a lubricant called Boe-Shield T-9 which when applied leaves a wax like film which is less prone to attracting dirt. Boeing invented it but it can be bought at bike shops. Bike geeks like it for a chain lube for the above noted reasons. It makes a great rust repellent when smeared on things too. Marine places sell it for that.
