Those are some serious miles. What about going to Mexico? I understand it's a very dangerous place to go, what with all the murders, kidnappings and cartel-related violence. However, some people seem to think that it's perfectly safe, that American cities are just as bad or worse (ok-- I'll give them Detroit), they go all the time and never have any problems.
I myself would have to defer to the words of my grandfather, who said "Never vacation in place where they hang bodies from bridges and decapitate people with chainsaws and then post the videos on You Tube". Smart man, my grandfather...

One trip we crammed 2 adults, 4 kids, and a medium sized dog into the crew cab dually and pulled the toyhauler from Tacoma to Yuma,stopping in Glamis for a week, and back over the Christmas school break.
Another trip, we went from Tacoma to Lead, SD, to St. Anthony's, ID, to Coos Bay, OR and back over the course of 3 and a half weeks.
Most of our trips are shorter - to the Oregon dunes or Sand Point, ID.
Children are unpredictable. You never know how high up the wall they're going to drive you

Numerous 1000 miles trips too. None of our trips ever seemed long enough.

Pulled my junky 2001 forest river 30 ft toyhauler with my 99 Dodge CTD from bellingham WA to tampa Fla and back to bellingham 11000 miles in 4 months.

Took the cabover camper and the 14 ft enclosed Trailer from Juneau Alaska to Whitehorse, Dawson City, Top of the world Highway, fairbanks, and the haul road to Prudhoe bay and back total of 8500 miles
