Thanks again for giving me all the options. I do hope to drive the whole coast, and right now I have plenty of time to do it. But that may change as time goes on. I did visit the whole coast a couple years ago, but without a tow car. So this time I will have more freedom and ability to see and do all that I want to.

Highway 42 is a good route that I use frequently. There are many places to pull off if traffic stacks up behind you. The down part is that there are few if any services between the coast and I-5 and it's about 80 miles or so. Pay attention to the black on yellow signs that suggest 35MPH. There is a Loves truck stop just before you get on I-5 in Winston. When you get to the TEE intersection in Winston, turn left and stay in the left lane. It will lead right onto I-5 north in 5 miles.
You will find SR 42 about 15 to 20 miles north of Bandon.
If you use SR 38 from Reedsport you will go through Elton. Arlene's is a good place to stop for eats. It's on the right as you go towards the east.
Also you can stop at the elk viewing area just out of town from Reedsport.
