I'm coming from Ft. Chiswell, VA and headed to Monte Sano state park in Alabama this weekend. I've got a brand new 42' fifth wheel that I'm pulling. My aunt got herself into a tizzy and called my cousin who called me and said that the roads leading there are really small and twisty.

Can anyone shed any light on what I might actually encounter?

Well they are narrow and do curve, but I think you will do ok. From Chattanooga take I-24 west to exit 152, US-72 west. Take US-72 west to Gurley AL. You will turn left onto Little Cove RD in front of the Gurley Mini Storage. Pass the Post Office, turn around you missed it. Little Cove RD is 2 lane and narrow on the first part, but is mostly straight. Then after a mile or so it has been widened. Take Little Cove RD to the 4 lane at US-431, turn right. At the top of the hill take a right onto Monte Sano Blvd SE, again 2 lane, but not real narrow. Go 2.3 miles. Turn right on Nolen Ave, Nolen Ave is narrow (but you are almost there). Take Nolen Ave into park. When you get into the park and come to a 3 way intersection stay to the left, campground store and check in will be just ahead on left.
It's a nice park, some sites have sewer. The Von Braun Astronomical Society has a planetarium right behind the campground. And the U.S. Space and Rocket Center is just down the hill in downtown Huntsville.

If anyone comes reading this later, this is the most important piece of advice in jaycocamprs' post:

Do NOT take Bankhead Parkway and Fearns Rd to get up there. There are a couple of "interesting" switchbacks to navigate. Fortunately for me, my GPS took me up this way and I got to test my driving ability. I passed, but wow. I should have listened to jaycocamprs!

In other news, this is one of the most beautiful & RV-friendly campgrounds I've ever been in. Absolutely amazing and I'm sad to be leaving so soon.

OMG! Well after Bankhead Parkway and Fearn Rd you should fear NO ROAD. That road is "really small and twisty"

LOL! Thanks for the pick me up. My entire family laughed when I told them the route my GPS took me. My cousin tried to warn me and have her call before heading up the mountain, but I'm stubborn and blindly followed the GPS.

I'm actually getting OK at driving this thing. Backing up and parking is a whole 'nother story (though, straight-line backing isn't awful - I did it in my cousin's neighborhood today). During the drive down, I pulled through 2 Arby's parking lots (parking in one of them) and parked in a McDonald's parking lot for awful food on the go (the RV fridge just wasn't stocked for this trip like we needed).
