Kat wanted to take the tear out for her birthday last weekend.
We went to our favorite creek in the mountains. Backed the tear down a steep hill onto a bench just above the creek.
Was in the shade of a huge pine. Probably 5' to 6' across. thought it would be nice to have the shade with the temps in the mid 80's up there.

Set up the galley, and Kat started fixing breakfast.
Heard a LOUD thud behind us???? Looked and didn't see anything out of place.
A few minutes later, another thud, accompanied with pieces of a broken branch raining down.
Got out the binoculars and spotted a tree squirrel near the top of the tree. He was gnawing the pine cones off the branches. These are not small cones. Probably 12" to 14" long, and 2 pounds.
We ended up putting the shade cover up, not for the shade, but as a bomb shelter.
Cones bounced off the shade several times over the weekend.
I did get a picture of the culprit.

It was a nice weekend.

We had the same thing happen at Shaver Lake in the Western Sierras in California. The pines cones were still closed up, very heavy and about the same length as you describe. Luckily none hit the roof. They fell all around the trailer it was if the squirrels deliberately missed the trailer.

A times during the year they will cut the cones to eat the pine seeds within the cone. The drop some that are hard and others the shred the cone. They will make a mess with the shreded cones and headaches with the hard cones.

Cute little squirrel. Looks like a beautiful place to camp.
(Gotta remember to carry a bomb shelter with me.)

That's one reason I don't like to camp under conifers (the other is tree sap). I've also experienced pine cone "bombs" and one landing on the roof can make a terrible noise. Especially problematic is night when trying to sleep.
BTW, there's a camper that looks just like yours here at American RV Park in Albuquerque. Cute little thing owned by a couple.

Hmmmm??? That is a BIG pine tree if it is 5-6 feet across. Wish you had gotten a picture of it. Also a 12 to 14 inch pine cone that weighs two pounds. Pictures of that would be nice also.
Now if the squirrel is next to one of those pine cones, that is a huge squirrel.
