I was camping 2 weeks ago and went to use my generator to make popcorn for the GK's started the generator it ran for several mins and died with the MW on. Tried to start it and realized I was at or below 1/4 tank so assumed that is why it didn't start. Put some gas in it and tried to start it today, has over 1/2 tank but would not start. Checked fuel line disconnected fuel pump gas squirting out. Checked spark but no spark at spark wire or plug. Did a search and some posted about a oil pressure switch or maybe a bad coil. Oil is full. Tried to take the sheet metal cover off to get at where I thought the coil would be, but apparently after removing 7 screws there must be more in the back that I can't get to. My questions are: is there some other fuses or relay's that I should check first? Is there a easier way to remove this cover? Does this vintage (1995} have points somewhere that may have closed? Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a 7KW but can't cut & paste the PDF document.

Oil cutoff switch shuts down if OP goes below 14PSI I would think it would crank and then shut down.

I will try to cut and paste my troubleshooting guide Kohler 7KW

Verify you have the EXACT model number to look up the manual on the Kohler site.

If you still can't find it try the Kohler site for basic engine problems. Has a good list of things to check.

Hi Garry my model is 16 years old and does not show up in the Kohler web site. I found a pdf file for the 5KCM generator. The trouble shooting guide is pretty basic to check for loose wires etc. I was finally able to remove the outer shroud and found an old mouse nest under it on top of the eng. I cleaned it out and checked all of the wires and cleaned all of the connections that I could find. Still no spark. Still trying to figure out how to remove the inner shroud around the fly wheel to access the coil. I don't know if newer M/H's are on a slide but it sure would make it easier to work on. I was hoping some one else had this same problem, and had some words of wisdom.

Sorry can't help mine is a 1990 7KW.

I think someone on this forum had posted a site for the 7 KW manual.

I did call Kohler and they gave me the name of a local Kohler dealer and I ordered the manual from them only the sent me the parts manual instead of the maintenance manual.

See if there is a local Kohler dealer close to you they may have a manual in stock.

Here is where you can get a more detailed manual.
I had the same issue with my Kohler 4CKM. Cleaned the carb bowl, replaced the coil wire. Seems to have done the trick
