I just sold our 93 Jayco fiver, and I would not have hesitated to tow it across the country. I had replaced all the running gear as you say you will be doing. I also ran new brake wiring from the front storage compartment back to the wheels. The old wire was pretty corroded underneath the insulation, which is never a good thing.
You probably will need to remount the axles under the springs while you are at it. It's not that big of a project if you farm it out, or if you have the skills. If you don't do that, a late model tow vehicle will be too tall.

Keep in mind some of the snooty RV parks have an age restriction (usually 10 years or newer).
You may discover some additional needed repairs once everything starts bouncing, rocking and rolling down the road.

I have two old trailers, a 1964 Aristocrat and a 1968 Barth, the Barth just finished a 1400 mile round trip in June from Tennessee to Indiana and back.
Go for it, you won't be sorry.

Why would he do that?
Well, I am assuming that he had it in some kind of a seasonal site. He said he had the roof replaced 2 years ago and he has no tow vehicle for 4 years.

We're still having a ball fulltiming in our Carriage that we bought new in 1996. 16 years on the road and still going strong. Of course Dutch is excellent about checking and maintaining our "home". Just check things our carefully then go have fun! Diana

I always laugh at those restrictions. What're they going to do when someone pulls in with a '40's vintage fully restored Airstream towed by a restored vintage truck, ready for the car show? You're seeing more'n more of these, too. I saw one guy with a '50's vintage small single axle TT behind a restored mid-50's Chevy, then had a '56 Chevy-looking pedal car with a homemade mini-TT in the bed of the truck; all were matching paint schemes. Would love to see them try and ask that guy to leave...in front of witnesses. :-)

Lyle Unfortunately for those parks that I have been to (CA) with age restrictions, it's a hard and fast rule. The vintage restoration doesn't get you through. Ask the Airstreamers.

Really stupid rule and only costs them money. I've seen 2 y.o. rigs that looked like they'd been wrecked and I've seen 50 y.o. rigs that look better than the day they were built.
